Steve Cummings

So today we're looking at the art of the cycling breakaway with two people who have made their names with dramatic solo victories and who know all about taking on the sport's biggest names on their own.

During his competitive career, Steve Cummings earned a reputation as one of cycling's most adventurous racers.

He won Olympic and World Medals on the track, as well as the 2016 Tour of Britain and stages of the Tour de France and Vuelta a España.

He now works for the Jay Colula team, where he guides riders and shapes strategies as the director sportive.

I'm Lee James and today I'm talking to Sigrid Halsett, Steve Cummings and Matt Warwick about what it's like to take on cycling's biggest names on your own.

Well, this is the big thing for me as someone who's never going to be able to attempt anything like this.

Because I'm so accustomed to kind of just seeing him like just swanning around the back of the peloton.

You know what I mean? It's just his style, Steve Cummings style.

And then kind of he races when he wants to race rather than out of duty or guilt.

I mean, for a lot of us in the peloton, you feel incredibly guilty if you're drifting around the back and your teammates are up there at the front of the peloton fighting for position.
