As far as the run-up and the history of al-Qaeda, Steve Cole, C-O-L-L, has done a couple of really valuable books.

As far as portraying the day of the attack, there are a number of good accounts, 102 minutes, some work by Lawrence Wright, another good journalist, has picked up some pieces of the story very well.

But I still think the report is a reasonable place to start.
