Are more recruits joining the US military, and if so, why? He's here with us now from Washington.

Steve, first off, have recruiting numbers improved?

The Marine Corps, for example, a, a quarter of it is, uh, Hispanic, and, you know, we've been talking about recruiting issues, but almost that entire dip a few years ago was almost entirely male.

Women have been enlisting at roughly, uh, the same volume for over a decade, and they're more likely to qualify for service, uh, than young men, being less likely to, uh, suffer from some sort of obesity and more likely to perform good on those academic tests.
