Steve Bechtel

On July 24th, 1997, 24-year-old Amy Rowe Bechtel, a deeply passionate and accomplished long-distance runner with Olympic aspirations, vanished without a trace in the rugged terrain of central Wyoming.

Living in the small town of Lander with her husband, Steve, Amy spent the morning running errands before driving into the Shoshone National Forest.

Her goal was to scout out a remote mountain loop road for an upcoming 10K race she was helping organize.

She was spotted by a few witnesses jogging along the road in the late afternoon, but when darkness fell and she failed to return home, her husband and friends launched a frantic search.

By the next morning, authorities located her white Toyota parked at a turnoff in an area known as Burnt Gulch.

The car was unlocked, her car keys, expensive sunglasses, and a race planning to-do list were left inside, and the only item missing was her wallet.

Over nearly three decades, investigators have been left with a ghost of a timeline and plenty of theories, but nothing concrete to tie a suspect to a crime.

All right, so obviously this is unsolved, but there are some theories, and these are the three main theories that I found.

Uh, yeah.

Um, this is Steve Bechtel.

Okay.

I don't expect that to mean anything to you.
