Stephen West

Like, huge.

I was knitting all of, um, Stephen West's shawls-

Yeah

... obsessively.

I would just, yeah.

So I basically, the cat sleeps on these wonderful, intricate shawls with mohair and stuff on them.

And, uh, yeah, but it's turning out quite well.

I finished the first sock of my Stephen West Summer Sock Along, the Chameleonics Socks in Schoppel-Wolle Sourball Crazy in the colorway Butterfly Kisses, and West Wool Hex in the colorway Explore.

What a journey that sock was.

So this is the one you start with the heel, knit the bottom of the foot, knit up the back of the leg, knit down the front of the leg, and then the top of the foot, and then do the toe.

Um, although it was a bit ropey.

And then a dyer friend of mine, um, suggested that I jump onto, um, the Mystery Knit Along with, um, Stephen West.

Mm-hmm.

[laughs] Yeah.

Yeah.

And I suppose with Stephen West, if he's doing a technique in a shawl that he know- he's made up, I guess he has to teach everybody.

So you're not-

... because of the whole, um, MCALs-

Well, is that something that you're interested in doing?

Well, not really, no.

If it uses [laughs] lots of mini skeins, I'm in."

Oh.

But it was cool to see...

Do you remember when I got a few skeins of that, like... wild bamboo yarn that was like all different like thicknesses in one yarn I can't remember what it's called it was like free yarn oh at yeah at the knitting meetup at the thing um that person Danny um he was working on that slipstravaganza Stephen West um shawl when we were there together you and I in June or whenever that one was and so I asked like it like do you have it? And he's like, yep, it's done.

And he took it out and it's magnificent.

It's so cool.

And it just seemed all too much to get involved with, which is kind of silly, but I feel like knitters will know what I am talking about.

So what I was mostly working on was my Stephen West Summer

Sock Along 2026 Chameleonic Socks.

I kept up with the first two clues, and then the third clue happened right before I left, and the fourth clue happened right after I got back.

Okay, let's call it a treat.

Okay, what happened is that I saw on Instagram, probably when I was looking at the kaleidoscope from Stephen West, I don't know.

No. Melbourne City Dye Works was closing down.

Oh, what a shame.
