Do you remember Ireland under 21s against Sweden under Stephen Kenny, and Connolly, Idah, Parrott played, and it was almost like Idah was drifting out to right, left-hand side.
Conor McEvoyHOST
30:44
I remember he done a flip-flop and set up a goal, um, which was, was out of this world.
Conor McEvoyHOST

But- Like I, I just don't think, I think if you're, I think, I think actually if you're playing Ferguson parrot, I, I think you'd have to play a parrot as one of those number 10s rather than-

You've got Stephen Kennedy's return and bringing St. Pat's back to a league title.

proving once again that he is a really solid manager and then you've got Bows who have been struggling for leagues and trophies to culminate with some of the better work that they've done and then Alan Rettles obviously coming in and doing a fantastic job there so like any one of these three teams there's an interesting storyline if they wouldn't I think the Stephen Kenny one for me is the most interesting one most intriguing one because it's the recline to the top of the League of Ireland having gone through the whole situation with their national team

yeah for sure a game at 12pm today as well speaking of early sports Ireland against Kazakhstan first leg of the World Cup semi-final playoff Kitty Taylor's last game for Ireland against Kazakhstan in 2009 I was reading this match report because it's to do with Julianne Russell who's coming on that was her debut Julianne Russell who's coming on in a few minutes And the match report has her down among the forwards as Case Taylor in 2009.

Not quite as well known as she is today.
Vinnie PerthGUEST

I mean, we had an incident, I think it was back in 2015.
Vinnie PerthGUEST
13:06
I remember Stephen Kenny talking about cork players would fall over a bag of crisps or something and...
Vinnie PerthGUEST
13:13
And it was rehearsed and we knew we were going to say it, like, whatever.
Vinnie PerthGUEST
13:16
But the drama that came with it.
Kathleen McNameeGUEST
17:40
Yeah.
Vinnie PerthGUEST
17:41
So therefore, I mean, therefore it was like in the run into 2018 when Dundalk were going for a double, no one knew.
Vinnie PerthGUEST

The talent pool in Irish football are in a real good place, and they showed it on the pitch last night, and Jim Crawford is a man who gets a lot of criticism but, and it's such a difficult job though in development of tho- that age group because inevitably you lose your best players or they can be fast-tracked, as they were u- under Jim.
Martin PrendergastHOST
5:15
Stephen Kenny brought a lot of young players in, and we're seeing the fruits of that in, in our performances now and improvement with the senior team but, you know, it's such a challenge for him and if we get to that Euros, that's gonna be absolutely brilliant for Irish football because I think-
Conor McEvoyHOST
5:29
Oh, we will
Martin PrendergastHOST

... they're gonna be names of, you know, people, the kids are gonna fall in love with them, them players as we kinda did a little bit in the under-17s last year.
Jack KelleherHOST

But then, but then Seanie gave us that great clip that, um-

Colin O'BrienGUEST

Um, but, you know, Stephen Kenny's teams, you know, like al- always good teams and, and, and, and that, you know, Derry were right there till the end of the season.
Colin O'BrienGUEST

They were leading the league in the last game.

There was high hope for him, high hopes for him as a youth, a youth team, a youth international under Stephen Kenny.
Phelim WarrenGUEST

Um, it didn't work out for him at Tottenham.
Phelim WarrenGUEST

I think maturity p- probably has a bit to do with that as well.
Matthew BrennanPANELIST

There's a lot of stuff as well as far as the way in which he's managed to get a lot of players in an Ireland shirt and had a look at players and give them players.
Matthew BrennanPANELIST
28:21
People credit Stephen Kenny and maybe rightly so for a lot of the players having a lot of experience under their belt and getting blooded in.
Matthew BrennanPANELIST

I think Hamer Hagenesson has done a little bit of that himself.

As far as the windows go, before the World Cup there was a lot of... not so great sentiment towards that from some figures within Irish football as far as those camps go and what value they actually added but I think you've seen over the last couple of weeks how important those camps might have been so I mean to come back to the question I myself would be very disappointed if that was the way it was to go now I don't know or how long it would last that sense of disappointment because of if football is a fickle old world and we're fickle people and we move on very quickly and we're going to support the Republic of Ireland team regardless of what's going on so I think regardless of who's over them it won't really make a huge pile of difference when it comes down to the Euros in 18 months time but I would be disappointed if it was to end at this juncture especially given the nature of it and it's just been one of those things where most people will go through their career without having to deal with anything like that

He's probably helped steady the ship a little bit after, you know, the tumultuous reign of Stephen Kenny, where it was a bit of a split, you know, among the fans.
