Steller's jay

Well, Curtis, what about you? What Jays and other Corvids do you have in your yard and your customers? What are they also seeing?

Yeah, so our region is pretty rich for lots of corvids from Clark's Nutcrackers, Stellar's Jay, American Crow.

We've got the Black-billed Magpie, of course, the Canada Jay.

Occasionally out here in the West, we do get a Blue Jay as well.

Boy, do they ever sort of draw me in.

And I just, the thing I love about corvids is they sort of have a way of making sure no matter where you are that you notice them.

So I know for me, like long before I was a bird person per se, You know, whether you were at the dump or down at the beach or in the middle of a city, you're always going to come across a crow or a Stellar's Jay in the mountains or a Canada Jay when you're camping.

So my whole life I've been sort of forced to pay attention to corvids, whether I I liked it or not.

I love feeding the birds.

So putting out bird seeds for the wildlife to be able to see how they have this pecking order of first it's the Stellar's Jays that come and then it's the Finch And then it's the woodpeckers and just seeing that the transition of birds coming to the bird feeder and putting out wildlife water because we've had a hot, a hot, dry summer.

So I have wildlife water, shallow pans of water out in the in the pine trees so animals can scurry by and take a sip.

Just doing little things like that that are don't take a lot of effort, but really give me a lot of a lot of purpose and joy in my community.

We were just going out to see clients, and we brought our binoculars on, on this first trip.

And, um- He said, "Let's go and see what, you know, what kind of birds we can find today." And I remember seeing a Steller's jay for the first time, and I was just like, "Oh my gosh, this bird is amazing.

I wanna see more.

You know, I wanna see more amazing birds."

Oh

... [laughs] yeah, she would fall asleep at it.

And, you know- You just give her enough Steller's jays, she'll be happy.
