Steel Magnolias

So I think they're nervous about being off book next week.

We just got our stage from the preview show we just ended, Steel Magnolias.

So we just got our stage.

So we're going to start working with as many props as we can because I think that's going to help them with their timing and get stuff in their hands.

In this meeting, we also meet Richard's wife, a.k.a. Jeremy's mom, Sheila, played by Betsy Adem, I think who's mostly known for Broadway.

She was in Steel Magnolias on Broadway and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress on Broadway and nominated for a Tony for Best Actress in Prayer for the French Republic.

So these are all kind of really heavy hitter famous people.

Yes.

Well, we have, uh, Henrietta's sister, Margaret, is played by Leslie Enman.

She just came off, uh, directing Steel Magnolias here at Gallery.

And then we have Beth Moore, who's playing Annie Jump Cannon, who is a real-life person, a suffragette and astronomer for Harvard.

And Beck Hazell is playing Williamina Fleming, who is a, also a real-life astronomer from Harvard.

Oh, my gosh.

are just about to close Steel Magnolias.

We have one more weekend.

This coming weekend is the last weekend.

Uh, and, uh, it's, it's an old school one from the '40s, uh, but it- it's, uh, it's, it's kinda funny because when we did our episode on, uh, high-risk/low-risk for community theater, I said there are five surefire plays.

I said, um, See How They Run, Arsenic and Old Lace, um, Silent Sky, Steel Magnolias, and Harvey.

Those are my five surefire.

And, um, and when, uh, when they announced See How They Run, uh, so the Empress has done ... has done Steel Magnolias, See How They Run, uh, well, they've done See How They Run, they've done Silent Sky, and they've done Arsenic and Old Lace.

And so, like, I told the director, I said, "Hey, when are you [laughs] when are you gonna do Harvey? It's time." [laughs] We've done all five.

You're like, "And I'll direct that one for you."

Um, I don't know.

I'm, I'm thinking if you wanna go dream roles, honestly, I would love to do anything in Steel Magnolias.

Oh, that's a good one.

We haven't done that one here.
