Steel Challenge

I was humbled a little bit while I was active duty.

I shot Steel Challenge a couple of times, a few outlaw matches, got my ass handed to me by a couple like 16 year old girls and matches.

And it is humbling, but it's also a nice feel to go, man, I really like to do this better.

Right.

There's got to be something cooler than this.

And I found like a steel challenge match.

And I thought, well, this is cool, but there's got to be something cooler than this.

And I started researching it, and I found USPSA at a club not too far from me.

So this year, what...

One, I know, I mean, just from a logistical standpoint, you've did multi-gun, steel challenge, IDTA, USPSA.

Did you do PCSL at the end of last year, end of this year? Or you have that coming up? Okay.

So break that down on what that looks like for you.

Yeah, that's a good question.

I would say that shooting is shooting regardless of the style of shooting that you're doing, right? So IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, IPSC, they're all slightly different in what's the most important thing to get a good score, but you're still aligning your sights, you're gripping the gun, you're pressing the trigger, you know, in everything but Steel Challenge, you're moving in between positions.

So it's all, and three guns the same way, right? So it's shooting, shooting at the end of the day.

So that was my range trip, anyway.

My last range trip was a Steel Challenge mess, sort of.

Yeah? Yeah.

It's been a while, which is they won two official stages, and then everything else is out.

For me, I didn't shoot well.

Because a lot of people, I came off the stage with a standard reaction, well, that was really fast.

And nobody that was in my squad were steel challenge shooters.

A lot of them were USPSA shooters, and a lot of them weren't even, and I think only one of them was a relatively competitive USPSA shooter.

Yeah, it's honestly, it's a perfect match because the window is just the right size where it's not too ginormous and holds zero.

I want to run this gun in Steel Challenge.

I just haven't got myself to the matches yet.

Plus, ironically, I only have two mags for that gun.

Now, for competition, I have done quite a bit of competition shooting.

I'm not really going to get into that because that would make it a really long episode and I could do an entire episode on setting your gun up for just Steel Challenge.

And the Ruger 10-22 is a great gun for Steel Challenge and a lot of people shoot Steel Challenge with tricked out 10-22s.

But you probably should go somewhere else for that resource and just look specifically at you're going to set it up for Steel Challenge.

But if you want to shoot Steel Challenge, I'm going to say just go to a match with the 10-22 that you have and just shoot the match and just have fun because you're not going to win your first match.

Just go and have fun and be safe.

You're going to be so overloaded with information and sensory overload.

Just go and shoot with what you have.

Uh, there's, there's Steel Challenge, and that's it, and otherwise, we're the only game in town on those, you know, 18 bays back there.

We got it pretty good.

Yeah.

It's not...

Some people do action steel and it's, uh, you know, just on steel challenge plates, which is totally fine, but I like the bang and they fall over and stuff.

So, so y- so you still do it as a falling steel? Okay.
