The majority of people with type 1 live in high-income countries and middle-income countries.

The largest relative increase in the type 1 prevalence, though, is expected to occur in low-income countries as access to insulin, glucose monitoring, and survival all improve there.

Taking statins early after a diagnosis of type 2 was associated with a lower risk of dementia.

According to the researchers, nearly half of dementia cases could theoretically be prevented by eliminating 14 risk factors.

But I think you've convinced me at least that there are a lot of benefits to making medications over the counter in terms of access.

So I'm gonna switch to Christy a little bit and talk about a group of drugs that have been in the media quite a bit, that keeps coming back to the table as an option for over-the-counter status, which is the statins, the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors.

And I think people argue that, hey, cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States.

We should give everybody statins and make them over the counter.

We continue to see that.

So I think that's where some of the push is coming from.

The Council on Therapeutics actually just met earlier this cycle in 2026 and is putting forth a policy that's already gone through the board of directors to, entitled Expand the Safe Access to HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors, and really focusing on that whole policy of kind of our concerns about these going straight to an OTC option.
