There is no second chance.

The man who spent twenty-six years being celebrated by a community that did not know what he had done will spend the rest of his life in a cell at SCI Waymart, a state correctional institution in northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately a hundred and fifty miles from the Chameleon Club where he used to hold court.

The conviction of Raymond Rowe for the murder of Christy Mirack was among the earliest in the United States achieved through investigative genetic genealogy.

It came just months after the arrest of the Golden State Killer and was described by multiple news outlets as the first conviction obtained using the technology.

Judge Reinecker denied the petition, calling Rowe's new account not credible, and noting the overwhelming DNA evidence, the confession to his own attorneys, and forensic details from the crime scene that were flatly inconsistent with a consensual encounter.

The Superior Court upheld the denial.

Rowe remains incarcerated at SCI Waymart, serving life without the possibility of parole.

He is now in his mid-fifties.
