We do this job irrespective of whatever the upcoming election cycle is.

And so I don't really think about the work that's happening here in our agency with respect to the midterms, in part because State AGs have been sort of leading the charge on these issues for a very long time, irrespective of what's happening in Congress.

And I don't know if the House switches control or the Senate switches control, whether or not that really impacts my job.

Certainly, it would be nice.

I wear a separate hat as an elected politician and want to support my party and candidates to help get elected.

But in my official capacity as AG, I don't truly give it that much thought.

You know, to me, kind of state AGs are kind of underrated players in the energy policy space.

I'm curious, what can an AG accomplish in sort of the energy utility space that other elected officials can't? And I'm curious, sort of how much more powerful is that role when AGs work across states, as you and your Democratic colleagues have been doing quite a bit, and as Republican AGs obviously did quite a bit during the Biden administration, during the Obama administration?

And META has obviously flipped internally and decided that they could live with these particular changes.

So the state AGs were able to accomplish something that regulators around the globe have had difficulty forcing META to do.

What's less clear is if these changes are in the best interest of the constituents that the state attorneys general seek to serve.

We don't know if any of these changes solve the, quote, mental health crisis.

What do you think pushed them to settle?

Well, obviously, the settlement has been in the works for many days, if not for weeks or even months, because it's so long and detailed.

And it required the agreement of 51 different state AGs.

So this agreement didn't just happen because this trial had been going poorly.

And META has obviously flipped internally and decided that they could live with these particular changes.

So the state AGs were able to accomplish something that regulators around the globe have had difficulty forcing META to do.

What's less clear is if these changes are in the best interest of the constituents that the state attorneys general seek to serve.

We don't know if any of these changes solve the, quote, mental health crisis.

So I think we should be careful about assuming that these restrictions aren't actually going to cause other users harm because of the fact that there's so many different use cases.

People are using social media in so many different ways to solve so many different problems.

And the state AGs have sided on one answer to the question.

That's not necessarily the only answer.

The complaint accuses TikTok of deceptive practices under state consumer protection law.

This adds Pennsylvania to the growing list of state AG enforcement actions against social media platforms over child safety, following similar suits filed by other states.

Compliance Action Organizations operating platforms or apps used by minors should audit age-gating mechanisms, content rating accuracy, and design patterns flagged as addictive, autoplay, infinite scroll, push notifications.

State AG enforcement in this area is accelerating.
