Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Um, this is just a list that came to mind while I was thinking about like rereading some stuff that, uh, it's been a while.

Um, and then Star Wars, uh, I would say Shadows of the Empire and Heir to the Empire.

Those just kind of take me back to that time when Star Wars was just three movies and a bunch of cool novels and stories and comics and stuff.

So sometimes when I get kind of, uh, wistful for those like days of the '90s when Star Wars was coming back into popularity and, and the novels were coming out, uh, I pick those up.

DC Total Justice figures, Wildcats figures, the weird Jim Lee Turtles figures.

And on the end of the case was Nintendo 64 playing Shadows of the Empire.

That's a good time.

That's my memory of it.

... it's like as a kid I loved Shadows of the Empire.

It's a fucking, it's a tough hill to climb without the Star Wars carrot on the stick.

I think, uh, yeah, I don't know.

I, Shadows of the Empire did something to my brain when I was a kid.

Uh, I feel like it was very...

Uh, Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, uh, Final Fantasy Tactics, Diddy Kong Racing.

Um, in the United States the top ones were Mario Kart, Star Fox, Super Mario, Diddy Kong Racing, GoldenEye, Final Fantasy VII, NFL GameDay 98, and Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire, and more Madden, and Crash Bandicoot.

That one I played.

Um-

Starfighter.

That reminds me of Shadows of the Empire, a Nintendo 64 game.

Fucking great game, bro.

But one that we played a lot of was, um, it was, uh, Star Wars, and it was, uh, just an awesome game.

It was Shadows of the Empire, and I remember it as one of those cool 3D-looking games, um, on N64 that you would just get lost in.

And, and he would sit, and he'd play with us, and we'd just play for hours.

And I remember that was, like, one of those that really kinda set in stone just a love for gaming, where you could, you could just unwind and escape from the world and just dive into this new world and, and just play, just game for, for as long as you could before you had to, you know, go play outside, even in the summer in good old Arizona.

Um, but I think, like, one-

Actually, I wanted to shout out the, uh, Star Wars, the N64 Star Wars: Shadow of the Empire-

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, yeah.

So they, they, they don't have to pay licensing fees like they do with Star Wars, so...

And apart from, like, I think a few GameCube games and, like, Shadows of the Empire and the Rogue Squadron series, most of the other Star Wars games have already been ported over, so...

Well, 'cause then an- anything past, what? Uh...

Oh, God, what's it called? Shadow of Mordor.

Yeah.

I don't know, I think playing Mission Impossible the game for the first time, I probably was like, oh, this is kind of like Shadows of the Empire, where it's like, yeah, you can see the massive ambition, and you can see kind of the growing pains.

I mean, a lot of this is in hindsight, but you can see it kind of struggling to become what it wants to be.

Yeah.

This really actually stood out to me.

I had it in my notes.

You mentioned Shadows of the Empire.

And like that really stands out to me, like if like and now in the wider context of games like people might not view those games as similar, but McKenna, you can probably attest to this.
