game that came out recently, and I think you could put that, the price.
DanHOST
34:06
It was Star Wars Podracer.
DanHOST
34:09
That's it.
DanHOST
34:09
Because the price of that went through the roof, because you could put that in, and it would unlock the store.
KenHOST
10:23
It's called Star Wars Racer Revenge on the PS2.
KenHOST
10:26
Because episode one, Podracer, was N64 and Dreamcast, and then Racer Revenge was PS2.
TerrenceHOST
10:34
Okay.
TerrenceHOST
10:37
Yeah, I never played that one.
Mathieu ComandonGUEST
41:09
I tried also like a non-VR game.
Mathieu ComandonGUEST
41:11
I tried with Star Wars Episode I Racer.
Mathieu ComandonGUEST
41:17
and that was also pretty cool it was playing pretty fine with the the controller uh some games i wasn't really i had to fiddle with the the controls was uh wolfenstein uh cyber pilots and that one was like really fun to play um i had a blast like you just like walk into the street of paris uh with like a giant robot with like a flamethrower and you just like put like ss officers on on fire so it was like really fun um but like while streaming it from the pc to make the resolution much better i had trouble like getting the contours like that to work.
ZebHOST

I
BenHOST
4:09
All right, so we're going to talk about Galactic Racer.
AdamHOST
4:11
I do want to mention, just because, but the Mos Eisley Padres Cantina is from a Star Wars Episode I racer video game, so I figured a little bit of synergy there.
AdamHOST
4:20
I absolutely loved that

game back in the day.

Has he bought any new video games? What's Jim's pickups for this week? Has he picked up Star Wars Podracer? Has he pre-ordered Barbie? Whatever the game is, it's competing with GTA.
MilesSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
0:15
Has Jim picked up a new weird game like a fucking Tintin on the PlayStation 3? Has Jim picked up...
MilesSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
0:23
Ninja Turtles.
Chris AbbottGUEST
37:58
Mm-hmm.
Ben HartHOST
37:58
And it looks different, and is, the whole mechanics of it are different than anything we've seen before, except maybe Episode I Racer, which it wasn't...
Ben HartHOST
38:04
Like Episode I Racer, like, great game, but like not to this extent.
Ben HartHOST
38:08
Obviously, you know, not...
Ben HartHOST
38:10
Just, basically just pod racing and that was it.
Pat BoivinHOST
0:54
It's about Bitty Blaze.
Woolie MaddenHOST
0:58
So, Star Wars: Podracer back in the day was a really fun racing game.
Pat BoivinHOST
1:02
It was.
Woolie MaddenHOST
1:02
'Cause the racing was very fun.
Pat BoivinHOST
1:05
I used to play it at my dentist's office.
Woolie MaddenHOST
1:07
Yeah.
Pat BoivinHOST
1:08
[laughs] That's where I used to play Star Wars: Podracer.
Woolie MaddenHOST
1:11
You would go so fast, and it was super easy to die, and you'd crash into things and blow up.
Aaron AmendolaHOST
24:52
But the gameplay of Galactic Racer has me in a frigging chokehold.
Aaron AmendolaHOST
24:57
It is so much fun to play and manage because what this game does that other racing games and specifically Episode I Racer failed to do is I feel like I'm actually doing upkeep of my land speeder as I race.
Aaron AmendolaHOST
25:12
And the way that you do that is...
Aaron AmendolaHOST
25:14
Let's say you're on a straightaway and you burn your ramjet.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
2:58
Just as the Burnout DNA is burned into this thing, so too is the Star Wars DNA to the point where it simply couldn't have existed in the same way without it.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
3:06
Number four, we really are getting a spiritual successor to Episode I Racer here, but more important than that, we're getting something that feels like what it felt to play Episode I Racer for the first time all those years ago, and that's a key distinction because retro-inspired throwbacks and spiritual successors are a dime a dozen these days.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
3:22
But they often feel like nostalgia bait that can only remind you of what you felt back then because they typically don't go very far beyond what the original was doing.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
3:30
And so they have this kind of hard ceiling in what they can evoke in you because you've seen and felt most of it before.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
4:24
And so the lack of a do-over button here in Galactic Racer and the ratcheting up of stakes as you get deeper and deeper into a league, this stuff is the secret sauce that juices the ever-living hell out of this video game.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
4:34
Put all this together and you get a generational racing experience, and I mean that.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
4:38
This is one of the best racing games released this console generation, and not only will it stand the test of time the way that Episode I Racer did, but I think it's gonna provide a much needed shot in the arm to the arcade racing formula to the point where I'm gonna be really surprised if other flagship racers don't ship with their own version of a roguelike-powered racing mode in the future.
Ralph PanebiancoHOST
4:56
This is just too good to ignore, both for game makers working on their own racing games, but also for you watching this video because you really, really have to play this.
Kae RossHOST
18:12
Mm-hmm
Dennis FuriaHOST
18:12
... for their own computer so I could play Episode I Racer, and my life was forever changed.
Dennis FuriaHOST
18:18
Um, I didn't even own it.
Dennis FuriaHOST
18:20
We, it was at the library, and I got the, uh, the PC version out from the library so that we could play it.
