Star Trek: Voyager

Deep Space Nine was going pretty strong I think, what? Like four seasons in? Three or four.

And then Voyager was in its second season.

So there was a lot of Trek out there, and then here comes this big picture with its, uh, you know, focus on the Borg, its horror vibe.

Uh, this is the eighth Star Trek feature length motion picture, and if you go by the whole even-odd thing, this would make First Contact one of the good ones.

Um, so, uh, you know, as a director, this was his first feature film following up TV directing work on The Next Generation, six episodes I think.

Dars- uh, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, three episodes.

Voyager, another three episodes.

And he'd also done, I think, some one-shots on shows like University Hospital and Dia- Diagnosis Murder.

It's actually, um...

I had to go back and watch like Star Trek: Voyager about that.

It's like a transwarp hub, so it's got all these things inside of it where people can move in and go in through tunnels and, and transport out.

So that's super interesting to me about the sun.

That's an interesting element of next gen.

I think all the shows of that era of Trek, they like Voyager did it.

I know you say Stein did it.

It's an interesting element to keep an eye on from the perspective of is that an example of Trek being more interested in the debate around certain topics as opposed to landing on a conclusion for those topics? Yeah.

Which, by the way, Pike, he is getting up there in my mind as one of the best captains.

Yeah.

Like, most underrated captain would be a Voyager.

And then you've got, for me, Picard's number one.

i mean i've seen virtually all the episodes the original series because i saw them as a kid when it was on reruns like everybody else i i seen most of the films most of them in the theater i will never see star trek the motion picture again in my lifetime because that takes too long and i think it will need an extra lifetime to see that film but i've seen star trek 2 and how wonderful that was as opposed to star trek the one i've seen the films over the years some of the good some of them not so good uh but and then the series themselves star trek the next generation really coming into its own the first couple years kind of clunky but it really got into something really good star trek voyager for really deep storytelling.

I'm not sure that they would approach that now as far as that type of storytelling.

Personally, I think that it was a very great piece for its time as far as Star Trek Voyager is concerned, Star Trek Discovery leading into yeah tell me your thoughts that Star Trek hit 60 because earlier this week it did hit 60 years of age and I wanted to make sure that we take at least it's a slowly forgotten forgetting IP you know Gen Z is not going to be able to relate to it Star Trek Strange New Worlds already has an end date its latest season has not gone over well the main reason why is well they're going to a kooky place or doing something drastic each and every week huh funny I thought 60 years ago each week they went to a strange new world as

well.

You know, I think there's something to be said to have an IP reach the age of 60, right? It had to have done something right for a very, very long time.

Who all going to be there? I need more information than that.

And then, like, the holodeck thing, like, which ship are we on? Are we on Voyager? Because, shorty, first of all, that quadrant is fucked up.

Like, there is not near a cool planet in that quadrant.

Not one.

Longer than the Delta Quadrant.

No, no, no, no, no. I'm bringing it back out general.

We've now left Voyager.

Thank God.

I was the only one who stuck around and watched DS9.

And we started watching Voyager.

Everybody dropped off of that like real quick, which is funny because now it's like, oh, that was the greatest Star Trek ever.

But but at the time it was like, what is this? And it's like, but anyway, so I watched Voyager basically

from

the day it started to the day it ended.

And everything else I kind of jumped in in the middle of.

And then I started, so I stuck around with all of it.

As a matter of fact, I'm jumping way ahead to the end of the series, Alan, which you just said, but I wrote this in my notes and I'm wondering if I'm going to come away.

I keep saying that when I think of any series, original series, TNG, Voyager, I think of these episodes and these characters and these arcs that are emblematic of the show.

That represents the show.

I'm not getting that from Strange New Worlds.

Charles, I agree, too.

I think what would have happened, given these people and the character we know Kirk is supposed to have, frankly, any Starfleet captain that we follow.

And Binga, OK, remember there's an episode of Voyager, very early in Voyager, where they found that race that had that machine.

They had the device that could transport you something like 30,000, 40,000 light years.

huge fan of his.

He will always be my doctor from Voyager.

Voyager,

yeah.

That's probably one of my most favorite series, and he's one of my favorite.

Absolutely one of the best that has ever done it.

But Star Trek Voyager... was a was pretty good in itself but yeah star trek deep space nine was the was really deep that really got deep into its storytelling there yeah

yeah um absolutely well well well said um i think that again to reach 60 years that means a lot but I think everything to quote, you know, I love my movie quotes.
