S

And rightly so, because he did reinvent that franchise.

He was fantastic as Picard.
A

Often when actors move into big franchises, be that a Star Trek or a Marvel, the assumption is that they're selling out and they go and do all those takes in front of green screen and it's all very corporate and commercial.
A
7:17Alex WoodHOST
But actually what Patrick Stewart did really exemplified in his body of work is that actually you can take the learnings from somewhere like the RSC and that mastery of text and delivery and apply it into these sorts of franchises so his Picard was so incredibly dynamic because he has that understanding of delivery and character that came from doing so much with the RSC and the same when he played Charles Xavier there was just that absolute gravity in that role and I think in a way, the character of Charles Xavier has been shaped by Patrick Stewart so much that I think most people are then surprised when someone else takes on the role.
A
7:55Alex WoodHOST
And in a way, it's a very different take on the character.
A
7:57Alex WoodHOST
But yeah, I think he has shaped the worlds of film and stage in such an impressive way.

He was just a great actor and he seemed like somebody who could actually have fun, poke fun at himself, poke fun at his image.
D
3:57Dan MurrellHOST
Even the things that I wasn't crazy about, like the first couple seasons of Star Trek Picard, One of the reasons I was so upset with those first couple seasons was because I didn't feel like it lived up to the legacy that he built for that character, and they went and reclaimed a lot of that legacy back in the third season.
D
4:12Dan MurrellHOST
So it was a very, very sad week for Trek fans, and beyond that, people that just enjoy good acting, good writing, that have enjoyed Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart across many other projects that aren't Star Trek.
D
4:25Dan MurrellHOST
So it is a very melancholy rest in peace to both of these huge Star Trek actors.
