Warp Factor 5 is a Star Trek rewatch podcast where each episode my guests and I discuss and rate the next five episodes of Star Trek in in-universe chronological order, beginning with the Enterprise NX-01 in the 22nd century and traveling forward from there.

This time on Warp Factor 5, we are covering episodes from Star Trek Enterprise Season 2, set around 2152 in the timeline of Star Trek.

Together, we'll dive deep into the next five episodes of Star Trek, their standout moments, how they contribute to the larger Star Trek story, and give each episode a Warp Factor rating between 1 and 5.

You're the first person to give me, I mean, you're by no means the first person to say Deep Space Nine.

We've done like... seven episodes and I think six of them the answer is from Deep Space Nine but you were the first person to give me just a definitive here is the answer to the question and not some mealy mouth like well it depends and if you pushed me I might choose this one but under this circumstance I might choose it in the last episode Abby Summer managed to pick I think six different kinds of Star Trek that sounds like happy well what's your favorite star trek series so what makes you definitively say deep space nine okay so to be clear i do love all

star trek of course so um but no deep space nine just for me and i would say this this wasn't true in the 90s in the 90s i probably would have answered tng but when i was you know watched a lot of star trek in that period where we didn't get new star trek for a while yeah And I binged through all of DS9 like four or five times in that period of time between the end of Enterprise and the beginning of Discovery.

Sixty years ago today, on the 8th of September 1966, American television viewers were introduced to the crew of the USS Enterprise, and a television series that, despite lasting for just three seasons, somehow went on to become one of the most enduring science fiction franchises in history.

And I think that's worth celebrating.

Now, a few days ago, my friend Craig Houston invited me onto his audio podcast, Planet Sci-Fi, alongside his regular co-conspirator, Stuart Chandler, to talk about 60 years of Star Trek The Original Series.

That'd be amazing.

I don't think they'll spend the money yet.

On the VHS to DVD thing, I was incredibly irritated with Enterprise because I started collecting the VHS as when Enterprise came out.

And they only did season one, didn't they? Yeah, only season one on VHS.

Well, David, why don't you give us a short summary of the episode? Absolutely.

In today's episode of Days of Our Enterprise, Captain Pike awakens from an apparent head injury that he doesn't remember.

He finds himself on an Enterprise he doesn't recognize with much brighter lighting, crew members acting very weird with their overdramatic performances and awkward pausing, Not to mention odd situations like a heart transplant for Spock, cosmic amnesia, space madness, and a horse suddenly being his daughter.

That's what I was gonna say.

Like, it's a problem in Enterprise, but it's, it's nothing like the problem it becomes in the-

It's-

In the new Trek.

Like, I like everything where McCoy is possessed.

Yes.

I like, I like when they have to blow up the, uh, the Enterprise.

Um, I like the heist.

There is a visual appeal to it.

Um, but I feel like there's an uncanniness almost like there's a scene where they get back on the, the, The Enterprise and DeForest Kelly's cartoon is standing there.

And all of him isn't moving but his mouth.

And it's just they have to do these sub-animations as opposed to like...

It's always fun.

And I think the idea of getting trapped in this pocket dimension is interesting too.

And I think the fact that the Klingons had to work with the Enterprise is always fun.

I like that the Klingons were just like, we're going to betray him again anyway.

So let's talk about that.

Well, I have to admit, first and foremost, at STLV 25, a Enterprise fan named Carly posed the question about the Star Trek United pitch that Michael Sussman had made about three years ago, of this idea that comes from just a little blip that was on the screen from Mirror Darkly, where they're looking up Archer's bio, and we find out that in 2183 Archer becomes UFP president.

You know, that was supposed to be throwaway.

There was not HD at the time.

So we kinda created this, this citizens committee to, to endorse Archer, uh, almost like a petition of Federation citizens asking him, "Please," you know, "Archer, please run."

And you guys did.

So there was a special moment where Eliza was there for the 25th anniversary panel with Enterprise, and got to ask Scott Bakula himself as Archer-

Yes

And then never really watching it as a child.

Kind of watching Star Trek: Enterprise a little bit, but not really, just kind of getting whooshed across the front room by my dad, like, whenever the Enterprise kind of whooshed at the opening credits.

Pretty fucking fun.

Um, and I also have a Cub Scout memory where I think all of our...

I also have to say for the record, I don't think you did watch Star Trek: Enterprise as a kid, because you were kids when we were kids.
