Star jelly

He even suggested it could be used as medicine as long as someone found it before it disappeared.

Other names people throughout history have called these weird, glowing, jelly-like masses from the heavens include Star Jelly, Spittle of the Stars, Star Blubber, Star Slobber, and Star Slime.

The famous German authors known as the Brothers Grimm included a word for it in their massive German dictionary, and the people from Wales called it star rot.

But the belief in the star jelly stretched beyond the British Isles and Europe.

An anthropologist named Francis Huxley was told by the native Urubu people of Brazil how the stars sometimes became detached from the sky and fall to Earth.

And, in fact, he himself once found a soft blue jelly-like object in the jungle.

and most people were convinced they came from shooting stars in the night until a few hundred years ago.

Who knows, wildlings, maybe people were right.
