The man was standing close to the curb with his heels on the pavement and the fronts of his shoes extending over the edge.

His arm was stretched out straight in front of him.

He was pointing towards Staines Bridge and he appeared to be pointing at something with great urgency.

Claire couldn't see his face properly but she could make out that his mouth was open.
