John HorganPANELIST
7:27
Yeah.
John HorganPANELIST
7:28
they lost their opening match I suppose losing your opening match does put you under some pressure like you know and the Bears the Bears they lost their opening match as well and they were against Middleton and they were very poor I thought in that game you know I was at it but again they reinvented themselves too like you know they got to the final But, you know, both sides kind of timed it, timed it right.
John HorganPANELIST
7:50
And they, like, the Dlin had two very, two very big wins.
John HorganPANELIST
7:54
Like, you know, they, outside of Cork, like, you know, they had to go to Castellón Roach to beat, to beat Kentorch.
Denis HurleyHOST
9:36
expectation is that it won't
John HorganPANELIST
9:38
be I think it should be there because then you play these type of players like you know keep away from the establishment like you know and play these players you know but who knows Eton Toomey was probably
Denis HurleyHOST
9:49
a standout player for the Bears he got six points five in the second half like the semi-final he stood up when they needed someone unfortunately for them it didn't didn't work out but He's someone, I suppose, you know, he's played in an All-Ireland final in 2024, but he, you know, I suppose he's seen the ups and downs of Inter County, but he looks to have kind of channelled any frustrations fairly well and is kind of ready to push on again.
John HorganPANELIST
10:17
Without a doubt.
Ian MaguireGUEST
1:40
Like, no harm to even mention Thomas Egan and Ricky Barrett.
Ian MaguireGUEST
1:43
They're almost the future slash president of the Bears football.
Ian MaguireGUEST
1:47
So, we feel like we're finding momentum.
Ian MaguireGUEST
1:48
We're getting players back on the pitch, which is huge.
Ian MaguireGUEST
3:31
And, obviously, it was brilliant to get over the line last year, but, look, I've...
Ian MaguireGUEST
3:35
I was lucky enough to get over the line a couple of times here, you know, in a county final, it just, it all comes down to it on the day, and that you can't take any county final for granted in terms of appearance, like, so you don't know if you're ever going to get back, and there was a stretch a couple of years ago, I didn't think we were going to get back, you know, so, really looking forward to the final, really looking forward, that it's Nemo as well, it's just class, do you know what I mean, like, this is what you grow up playing against, you grow up playing against Nemo, you know, when you're a city club, you play at a city club, like, so, it's just, let it be a great occasion, and really looking forward to it, to be fair.
Rory BurkeHOST
4:03
It's a bit like the Bears and the Glen in the Hurling to the Bears and the Neiman in football.
Ian MaguireGUEST
4:06
Yeah, like, it just comes back to the point as well, like, you're playing against, you know, when you're in the city, you play the city teams more often than you play the country teams or if it's East Cork and Hurling.
Dean BrosnanGUEST
1:58
Yeah, we felt that we were right on the right road then at that stage.
Dean BrosnanGUEST
2:03
The Bears are incredible.
Dean BrosnanGUEST
2:05
They were excellent today.
Dean BrosnanGUEST
2:06
In the last five, ten minutes before halftime, we really showed the way they could move the ball.
Owen O'LearySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
44:10
We were always kind of a goaler to a head but it's never safe.
Owen O'LearySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
44:14
They're playing the Bears and they're forwards there like William Buckley, Brian Hayes and even Ethan Toomey around the middle.
Owen O'LearySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
44:18
We were happy to get out there with the win really.
Ger McCarthyCORRESPONDENT
44:21
Talk to me about your management team and what they've done for you over the last few years.
Rob DowneySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
47:01
I don't really have any emotions or anything.
Rob DowneySOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
47:04
But, yeah, I'm just over the moon that we got over the line.
Ger McCarthyCORRESPONDENT
47:08
Considering the battles you've had against the Bears down through the years as well, it wasn't a classic, but it was a day you had to gut it out.
Ger McCarthyCORRESPONDENT
47:14
Is that the kind of trace that you have? You can play hurling to the top level, but when you need to gut it out in a real battle, do you have those traits as well?
Anthony DalyGUEST
1:25
Like I said, you know, such a rivalry there between Kamele, Ina Kilnemona.
Anthony DalyGUEST
1:29
and then it took a long time for the game to actually flow, but then it did, like this, we got a great second half, but we did a lot, I don't know what, it was uncanny here today, the amount of wides to the left of the City in post, both teams, the Glynn, I thought the Glynn must have felt at half-time, we're down two points here, how are we down two points? I mean, Simon Kenneth-X went off the crossbar, probably should have been buried, and at least four or five, but then the Bears looked like the top, Ben Cunningham was having a huge influence in the game, Ethan Toomey thundered into the game and Brian Hayes looked dangerous although you would say Robert Downey probably won that battle overall but I thought Cunningham was kind of running the show and they weren't getting a handle on him But in fairness, overall, I would say now that they were the slightly better team.
Anthony DalyGUEST
2:13
They created probably five goal chances and a dream there for O'Leary with 2-2 from play in the county final.
Anthony DalyGUEST
2:19
And he finished these two goals properly.
Brendan O'BrienHOST
4:24
But you've been on the line, you've been a player, a captain.
Brendan O'BrienHOST
4:27
in finals and if you're on the line and your team is sending wide after wide are you just saying look it's grand it's nervous energy it'll be fine or are you thinking this stuff is contagious this will kill us before we get going is it a final or what is it or
Anthony DalyGUEST
4:41
Yeah, it's an element of the final, and it's about fellas maybe being able to just focus, treat it as another game, another hours hurling, but the sideshows will do that to you, you know, the colour up around, I drove over by the north side today coming down, and the colour, like, and even, you know, it would be unusual for me now to see the Middleton walking out here to see the Bears team.
Anthony DalyGUEST
5:01
coming in by guard to escort.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
18:42
Yeah, there's one game in Cork that everyone is talking about.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
18:44
It is the Glen versus the Bears in Supervalu Park y Queef tomorrow.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
18:48
Haughey versus Damian Cahillane, Hayes versus the Doneys.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
18:51
It should be an incredible contest here on Lee's side.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
18:59
And that one's with Banan Collig and Dungourney.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
19:01
And that one throws in two hours earlier at two o'clock.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
19:04
And during the week, both teams, Glen and the Bears, that is, had their media nights.
Tomas MulcahyGUEST
19:08
And the big red bench got to both.
Michael FoleyHOST
1:44
That was short and mercifully sweet.
Michael FoleyHOST
1:46
No, it's the Glen and the Bars.
Michael FoleyHOST
1:47
It's Glen Rovers and St. Finn Bars.
Michael FoleyHOST
1:49
So...
Michael FoleyHOST
1:50
You know, those are names to conjure with.
Michael FoleyHOST
2:25
It's a bit pompous on the one hand because, you know, again, the beautiful thing about county finals is no county final is any bigger or smaller than any other one.
Michael FoleyHOST
2:33
They all mean as much to the people who are involved.
Michael FoleyHOST
2:36
But the Glen and the Bars have been involved in at least one county final that absolutely smashed records left, right and centre.
Pauric LodgeCORRESPONDENT
2:39
Sunday will be the busiest day of the year for GAA County Finals.
Pauric LodgeCORRESPONDENT
2:42
One of the most high-profile fixtures will be the Cork Hurling final between Glen Rovers and St. Finbarr's.
Pauric LodgeCORRESPONDENT
2:47
It's the first time the city rivals have clashed in the decider since nineteen eighty-eight.
JustinHOST
2:51
And the, and the Barrs have two, two big matches in seven days as well, so they have football the following week.
Kevin O'DonovanGUEST
1:50
The following weekend, the, the shinty and the, the Jazz Weekend, and we have, um, f- the county football finals that weekend.
Kevin O'DonovanGUEST
1:57
As well so, our big one coming is next Sunday is the county final between St. Finbarr's and the Glen.
Kevin O'DonovanGUEST
2:02
That's the coming Sunday, the 18th.
Kevin O'DonovanGUEST
2:05
Um, and the football will follow then the following weekend, the jazz, with the shinty, and other events as well.
Patrick HorganGUEST
3:59
So, um, obviously getting over the line back then was brilliant, but, um, yeah, we're- we're back there now Sunday, and, uh, we hope for the best.
Matt CooperHOST
4:07
So you're against St. Finbarr's.
Patrick HorganGUEST
4:08
Yeah.
Matt CooperHOST
4:08
So it's a great north side, south side city final as well.
