There's been a lot of big news in St. Bernard Parish, specifically around the Louisiana International Terminal.

That container port just cleared one of its biggest hurdles yet with the approval of the Army Corps of Engineers permit at the federal level.

So whether you are pro-port or anti-port... whether you have very strong feelings one way or another.

There's one question a whole lot of St. Bernard Parish homeowners want answered.

They wanna know what exactly is this going to do to our property values? Are they gonna plummet? Are they gonna go sky high? Should I get out now? Should I wait this thing out? What does that look like? Are the houses closest to the port, like in Violet? What's going to happen to them? Can thousands of new jobs actually increase the housing demand? Oh, my gosh, what's going to happen with the traffic? Now, maybe the bigger question here is if the port ultimately gets built, how do you make sure St.

Bernard Parish doesn't get traffic, you know, right in front of my house or, you know, that the noise isn't too bad, you know, while everyone else gets the economic benefit? My guest today is St.

Uh, so tell everybody, Sean, where you guys fish out of and a little bit about your, um, charter operation.

Well, we fish out of Hopedale, uh, which is a really great place down in St. Bernard because you're kind of in the middle of everything.

You can fish Delacroix, Hopedale, Shell Beach,

Biloxi Marsh, Breton Sound,

Yes, sir.

You know, I'm born and raised in St. Bernard, Paris.

So I fished growing up Delacroix, Hopedale, Shell Beach, and then I moved out to Slidell and And, you know, learned how to fish out here and realized that, man, fishing the stuff that I fished growing up isn't really that far from over here, you know.

So when the trout and the trout go over there in the summertime, you know, I make that run across Lake Bourne and.

The objective was to relieve pressure and protect New Orleans and its commercial interests.

The result was flooding in St. Bernard and Plaquemine parishes.

PBS's history of the event records that it ultimately took 39 tons of dynamite to open the levee sufficiently.

Residents were displaced and the compensation they had been promised proved grossly inadequate.
