Uh, in fact, I spoke to someone actually who'd been at St. Anne's College in the '50s, who'd met Elizabeth Anscombe, and I said: "What was she like? What did she say to you?" And they said, "Well, I was this enormously spunky girl in my day, and so I just went up to Miss Anscombe who everyone else was terrified of, and I said, 'Miss Anscombe, how do you manage to summon up the courage to ask a question in one of these seminars?'" And apparently, what Anscombe told her was, "I just repeat one of their sentences back to them, look puzzled, and say, 'But why?' And then they look terrified at me." [chuckles] And that does work.
