St. Andrews Links

St Andrews is a little bit different.

It was an invitation from both the RNA and the St Andrews Links Trust that led to me going up there to take a look a few years ago.

To look at the brief that they had and to come up with probably the most interesting area of change or actually, again, restoration, I would say, is the 16th hole there.

And when we approached it with a walk around, it was, oh, how do we stop golfers driving it to the left of the principal's nose, you know, into the rough? And I said, well, I don't think we do stop them.

So I don't think there's any plans to turn the new course of the Jubilee into the Open Championship layout for St Andrews.

But it's an interesting background to the whole piece.

When it comes to the nuts and bolts of it, we've got to work with, in that case, the St Andrews Links Trust.

They're the custodians of the links, as you know.

And as you found out recently, Brendan, this idea goes back a long way.

I believe you played the reverse St. Andrews.

How did that go for you?

It was fabulous, obviously.

In America, it's San Francisco Golf Club.

In the UK, it's St. Andrews.

I'm a huge history buff when it comes to golf.

I like the fact that they don't even know who designed St. Andrews.

It's so old.

The course for the modern game is right there.

I hope they can still maintain the integrity of the challenge.

But just, you know, you can stay right there in St. Andrews.
