Śrāvaka

The great vehicle can carry over everyone, the whole world.

The practitioners of Hinayana are sometimes called in these traditions, and indeed in the Lanka, Shravakas, which means listeners, so those who merely listen to the words but don't really put the teaching into practice.

Or, you know, if they do, it's just by rote.

They're just sort of listening and obeying to what the Buddha said, uh, just sort of missing the point.

I'm curious about the, I mean, I kind of know what they're going to say, but I'm going to look at the footnote for the three vehicles.

That is, as either Shravaka, intellectual Buddhist, Pratyekabuddha, sensory Buddhist, or Bodhisattva, Buddhist practitioner.

Okay.

That's not what I expected it to say.

Because whether we are grumpy and depressed or whether we are joyful and happy depends to a large extent what we are paying attention to.

For example, if you look at our shrine, what do you feel? Does looking at the shrine make you grumpy and angry? Was it more that you feel inspired by the beauty of the statue and you think of the qualities of the Buddha and you think of the relics of the Savakas and Abahams and you're thinking of the first five disciples and the Buddha and this is all things which make the mind very bright, very happy.

Faith, devotion, confidence, also appreciation of all the people who contributed There's quite a bit of gold in that Buddha statue.

Because some of the ladies supporting Dhamma Gibi have given some of their gold jewelry, which we took to the casting ceremony in Thailand.

If they're able to shed, shed their lay mindset properly.

I mean, technically, the Anagarika life, the Anagarika life, the Sikh Shravaka, Shravaka life is slowly chipping away at, at this, this lay sort of mindset.

But, you know, it's not, it, you know...

But at the moment of ordination, if you can chip away at it properly, you know, they'll come out next, next, on, after the ordination, a completely different person.
