Squirrel Hill

basically has adopted Samira, her husband and young daughter, everything from finding them a dentist, replacing the bald tires on their car, picking up their small daughter from preschool almost every day, paying for her to have swimming lessons and ballet.

She now attends this, you know, small Afghan child, four years old, attends a JCC preschool in Squirrel Hill, Pennsylvania.

She has Friday night dinner with the family almost every week and visits their country house.

It's a true story of families, you know, family of choice.

December 3rd, 1989, a typically frigid Sunday night.

[wind howling] Jeff returns to the house he rents on Beechwood Boulevard in the quiet neighborhood of Squirrel Hill.

It's actually his second trip home that night.

Dr. Farkas was home alone, and a friend of his had gone to a restaurant in Squirrel Hill, and when he came out, his ca- battery had died.

So he called Dr. Farkas and asked if he could come down and give him a jump.

That is so typical Jeff.

The horrifying news travels fast.

That morning, Jeff's great aunt, who lives in the city, learns of the tragedy.

So like it means different things to different people.

How do you welcome new people to the community? So I actually took my experiences and tried to think of how to pay him forward.

And we did have this really beautiful little life living in the heart of Squirrel Hill.

And I was going to the University of Pittsburgh and my husband was going to Duquesne Law School.

And we came back to our little coach house and I got pregnant with our first child and And he had a perfect pregnancy and perfect delivery.

Our youngest son, JJ, struggles with how to fit in and how to meet people, how to participate in a typical conversation.

So JJ and Uri are both, I'm very proud to say, contributing members of the community where they do a lot of chesed, a lot of nice things for other people.

Squirrel Hill is a different Jewish community than other communities in America, and it's It just draws the picture of why it was so shocking that something like this would happen in Squirrel Hill.

Coming from Detroit, where the Jewish community would pick up and move 10 miles every 10 years, the Jewish community of Squirrel Hill has been in the same place for hundreds of years.

And I want to just mention quickly that it opens in Highland Park the 4th through the 6th and the 11th through the 13th.

Frick Park and Squirrel Hill the 18th through the 20th.

Hazelwood Green 25th through the 27th.

Oct Going into October again.

In Pittsburgh, about an hour south of us, there was a gal named Summer Lee who, She was a DSA person, and same strategy with her.

And she ran in the Squirrel Hill area, which is the heavy Jewish section of Pittsburgh.

Wonderful area, terrific places.
