You know the incredible voice of Paul Carrick.

From the ace hit, How Long, to Tempted by Squeeze, to several hits with Mike and the Mechanics, and his solo projects.

But Paul's love for music goes deeper than just pop.

He's always had a penchant for traditional country artists, such as George Jones, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, and many others.

Welcome, welcome.

Paul, your body of work goes so deep that me and Rick were talking a little earlier that we could talk about this forever, everything you've done.

But our audience surely knows of all the hits with Ace and How Long and Roxy and Squeeze and even with Mike and the Mechanics and on and on.

But today, today's a special day, Rick.

We're not going to hear the wedding present, the cover stars, and this set is seven songs long, so we will have three other ones after it.

But this set is going to include tracks by Railcard, The Dolmans, Metric out of Canada, and Squeeze from England, all of whom you can read the words of in the new issue.

We're going to start with Railcard this time.

The album is called Two Sets at a Time.

And before that, we heard four bands that are interviewed in Big Takeover.

Squeeze is nobody who needs any introduction from me, but this is an unusual record in their long, almost 50-year catalog.

It is the album that they were working on when they first began 50 years ago and scrapped when they got signed, and they revisited it now and made it now.

I kinda wish there was a day that they had everybody kinda together, right? Like, Squeeze, Adam Ant, Violent Femmes, Lisa Loeb, right? I'll, I'll throw in Dave in that mix.

Yeah.

So I went back to look at, build a little playlist of the stuff.

And I was curious what he was playing when he was, when he's touring now.

He's actually touring with Squeeze right now.

But they're not on the same, they're not on the same, uh-

Dead Ringer for Love.

And the next song I have to thank, and you have to thank, my painter, Jules, because he walked into the kitchen, and I said, "While you're here, I'm not sure if I should play this song or this song." And he went, "Oh, definitely this song." [upbeat music] Back with Squeeze and Cool For Cats at Radio X.

It's not a coincidence.

How long? You know, I played a Mike and the Mechanics, you know, living years.

I played her Tempted with Squeeze.

And I said, these are all him.

You're kidding.

So they were

involved.

Squeeze were really a pop rock band that just embraced punk and pop.

Exactly.

Quite by chance, actually, we were put together... by a lovely lady called Tracy McKnight at BMI.

And Chris Difford from Squeeze.

Oh! Chris runs this fantastic sort of songwriting retreat out near Glastonbury.

And I got invited a couple of years ago.
