Spring Lake

So I would say, based on what I've seen, clearing stream debris, so the stream flow restoration assistance program is probably the one that could do the most good.

When I went to Spring Lake and I went to the town hall, I got to listen to a presentation by a contractor that they hired to work on their water system.

And so as they make great improvements on the water system, the city of Spring Lake, they're going to take their funding that they've got and they're going to work on other things like stormwater management.

And so the more stormwater management that they do, they're going to push more water downstream.

And so they've got three creeks and a river that the stormwater goes to.

So let's make it simple.

So could you name one creek, one road, or one farm in this county that you could drive me to so I would understand better the problem that Soil and Water faces?

This November, he's running for another term in a two-candidate race against Democrat Paul Taylor of Spring Lake, who did sit down with us here at the Cabinet back in August.

So for a voter in Spring Lake or Western Cumberland who's never met you, what would be the one thing you've done in Raleigh that you would feel that has touched their life directly?

Well, you know, the greatest thing that we've done lately, of course, is cut 41 cents off their gas bill and their diesel bill.

He went on to serve as second-in-command at the Hope County Sheriff's Office.

He was police chief in Red Springs and then police chief in Spring Lake, where he rebuilt a department that had lost its police powers.

In this March, 2026, he won a four-way Democratic primary over the appointed sheriff, Jonathan Morgan.

In November, he faces Republican LaRue Windham, who sat down with us back in April.

Is this your first elected office you've gone for?

Because I know.

So my next question is going to be you've run departments in Red Spring, Spring Lake, second in command in Hoke.

Now this office is going to run the jail, the courthouse, the school patrol.

We may get into some of that right now.

Everybody's speaking.
