Sprague Avenue

Construction on Spokane's North-South Freeway has reached a new milestone.

Washington Department of Transportation spokesman Joe McHale says crews recently installed the girders that will support the freeway from Alki Avenue South to Sprague Avenue.

Having these girders set over Sprague Avenue, it is an exciting milestone.

It's exciting to, to see this thing really start to take shape and understand that there is, um, light at the end of the tunnel now.

Next is the pouring of the concrete deck, which is scheduled for late fall or early spring.

So now folks who are using that, uh, busy arterial, Sprague Avenue, who are, who are driving, um, whether it's to Avista Stadium, or it's Costco or Home Depot, the businesses, residents in that area, they're now gonna be driving underneath the future North Spokane Corridor, so it's, it's visible.

McHale says construction of the final phase of the freeway, the connection with Interstate 90, is scheduled to begin next spring or summer.

He says work on other segments continues.
