Sporting clays

And we moved down here and there wasn't a whole lot of trap to be had.

So he had shot sporting clays in Pennsylvania a handful of times.

And that was kind of what he wanted to transition to.

And that was also right about the time I was old enough to go out there with him.

Yes.

And that's always been, you know, i- in, uh, sporting clays, um, I served as the president of Sporting Clay, uh, Michigan Sporting Clays Association for quite a few years, and that was always one of our challenges because you look at some of the big, um, operations out there, like Ohio is, is really big in sporting clays.

Well, they, they draw in from, you know, four or five states around them.

Mm-hmm.

You know? So, so we, we have those challenges here as well.

But because of our location, we do draw a lot of people from, from Indiana, Illinois, um, Ohio.

In fact, uh, we just had, um, our FETASC, uh, state championship here, uh, for sporting clays, and a fellow out of Ohio won it.

This is what I had to work with, everyone.

First of all, Sean, as you know, our mission statement with this podcast is to introduce new shooters to the game and show them how great this is.

And I don't think... highlighting controversy or highlighting a problem of whatever it is whoever's fault it is it doesn't matter i think that just is complete backwards from what we always said we would do right

yeah well and i've been getting it on my end too and i as you know i'm not as highly involved as i once was into the whole sporting clays thing and not talking to as many people as i used to and uh i figured if i was gonna ask anybody be you so

yeah i mean you know of course i've heard from both sides in multiple directions and avenues and i i really don't want to hear about it really it's none of my business it doesn't involve me i understand that it involves the organization everything but you know what that's I had one guy say to me, well, what about being transparent and everything? That's up to the organization to do that.

I want to get him safe, comfortable before we bring him out in the field.

So I took him for a sporting clays lesson at Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation.

And I was watching him shoot clay targets, and I was like, wow, that looks like fun.

And so, but we had this nice conversation about it because in trap and skeet, you know, like you can have a nice round and there's certainly really high quality people that do these sports.

But in sporting clays, sometimes, you know, it's really fun when you're like, holy crap, I hit that.

You know, you never say that in skeet, you know.

I started shooting a little bit of skeet as a kid and did a little registered shooting while I was, you know, up until through high school, I guess, and then went to college and didn't shoot a bit at all after that.

And shortly after I graduated from university, I had a friend invite me to come out and shoot sporting clays.

And I'm still trying to decide whether to hug him or what I should do about that.

Get reparations from all the money? Yeah.

Yeah.

So, I mean, you really

essentially got in on the inception of sporting clays in the United States.

I mean, prior to that, you know, like you said, just kind of skeet and trap.
