And to keep that volume up, producers like David have a secret weapon, a tool that's become ubiquitous in pop production.

It's called Splice.

To speak to what Splice is, it's a big library of loops, audio loops, pieces of audio made by other people that are interesting.

Splice sort of democratized pop production.

For the price of a Netflix subscription, you get millions of sounds, drums, guitars, vocal chops, all royalty-free.

You download whatever you want and just drop it into your track.

And then, um, I'll get some things from Suno, like a lot, see if I find something I like.

I very rarely will like all the elements.

The whole cue... played you know and i was like wow that is so cool um for me the the drone has to be there and you're absolutely right it has to be evolving and i have an expression pedal and i've got my mod wheel on my chronos and i get to be really creative with like like pitch bending and all that stuff if i'm just If I'm just playing a note and holding it for a cue, I don't feel like I'm composing that.

So it's kind of like using Splice and Serato.

You don't just take a loop from Splice and call it your own.

You have to change it in some way.

So for that reason, I also feel uncomfortable just pressing a key and calling it my own.

Yeah, and this is where getting into your own sound design, whether you are designing a synth or something that I really love doing is bringing like a splice one shot and creating a pad or an instrument, doing some instrument design out of that.

I love that.

In fact, I've got a video coming out for the Splice YouTube channel about doing that very thing, which is taking like a Splice.

And, like, yeah, I'll be real as well, I find that bit really interesting you've brought up because, um, that's, like, a Splice sample that, like, I had in a demo.

And I think that's actually something that, 'cause, you know, I don't know if you know anything about Splice culture, but, like, you can just use a sample.
