Speed

The paper introduced special relativity to the world, and buried within its mathematics was a consequence so extreme, so counter-intuitive, and so structurally important that it would take decades for even professional physicists to absorb its full implications.

That consequence was a hard speed limit embedded in the fabric of reality itself, a limit that does not merely constrain how fast things can move, but that actively and increasingly resists any attempt to approach it, demanding greater and greater energy for each additional increment of speed, until the energy required diverges toward infinity as the limit is approached from below.

This is not a technological barrier.

It is not a barrier that applied in 1905 and might not apply in 2105 after sufficient engineering progress.

That is a steep relationship, but it is a finite one.

No matter how fast you want to go, there is a specific finite amount of energy required to get there.

Newtonian mechanics contains no speed limit and no energy infinity.

You can always go faster if you are willing to supply more energy.

I feel like the only thing that can help them is divine intervention at this point.
