Blake EzraGUEST
56:45
And at the time I was starting to DJ and I was like, here's what we're going to do.
Blake EzraGUEST
56:48
Make this song into like Speed Garage, right? Make this beautiful ballad, this Hebrew ballad into Speed Garage.
Blake EzraGUEST
56:54
That's all I want.
Blake EzraGUEST
56:55
And I'm going to make a video and I'm going to take my DJ booth and I'm going to put it in Tower Bridge or London Bridge.
Rue JayGUEST
22:51
We started to go into, I don't remember that time period.
Rue JayGUEST
22:54
It started to go into Speed Garage.
Dexter JonesHOST
22:57
Yeah, I remember it.
Dexter JonesHOST
22:58
I remember it being represented in London in both rooms.
Dexter JonesHOST
23:02
They had the Speed Garage, say, in one room and Hard House in another room.
Dexter JonesHOST
23:07
I remember that period.
Dexter JonesHOST
23:08
And there was a
Rue JayGUEST
23:10
yeah.
Kodwo EshunGUEST
27:54
And I loved it all.
Kodwo EshunGUEST
27:56
And so from, I think from about 93, 4, 5... by about 96 it's starting to lose interest because it's all converging towards a certain kind of tech step and the music is getting more and more technical which in theory I liked but in practice it wasn't so enjoyable and by that time Speed Garage is coming and Speed Garage creates a new split because it's got this kind of champagne aristocracy feel which i wasn't especially enamored by but it sounded amazing and then even better than speed garage is like two-step two-step was like this incredible it was like this new teenage music which takes all the sounds from you know timberland rodney jerkins um all these different R&B producers but just does it better and with a London feel like with groups like names like Artful Dodgers that's a very London that's a very British thing Artful Dodgers or Dem 2 these very kind of kind of ragamuffin kind of street names so yeah by 96 yeah by 96 it's much more about R&B so I kind of burnt out on on drum and bass by 96 because I'd listened so much between 92, 3, 4 and 5, four years but it was amazing because the entire orientation then moves to Britain And, you know, it's been so long looking up to the US and hip-hop.
Kodwo EshunGUEST
29:31
I bought so much hip-hop, so much American music.
Kodwo EshunGUEST
29:35
It was just amazing to, in a way, be enchanted by Britain, by obscure bits of Britain.
Mr AdzHOST
49:36
We've had the sounds of LS2 and something's going on.
Mr AdzHOST
49:39
The original Speed Garage mix.
Mr AdzHOST
49:41
Anybody got a brand new from Michael Cho once again? Keep pushing the original mix.
Mr AdzHOST
49:48
That's what I've got to say about that, man.
David JamesHOST
63:53
I mean, I think the last year or two, especially a lot of younger people, a lot of younger producers in electronic music, there's a 90s vibe certainly happening.
David JamesHOST
64:06
It's kind of almost like a return to those heavy Speed Garage vibes.
David JamesHOST
64:11
which i actually love and so you know every time i think oh you know music's changing that kind of recycles again which i you know i think right now musically like if you turn on the radio or hear some of the producers out there the younger guys and girls um i i can't tell the difference anymore between the mid 90s and you know 2026.
FreQ NastyGUEST
64:30
there is a lot of garage stuff that harkens back to that and break stuff as well but you know to the 90s and the 2000 stuff and i think that um There's a reason for that.
BirchHOST
5:05
That's why it was called Garage.
BirchHOST
5:07
It was also called Speed Garage because it sped up regular house music.
BirchHOST
5:13
Why
RobPANELIST
5:13
have four beats when you can have two?
Wayne BridgeHOST
9:18
Yeah.
Joe ColeHOST
9:19
And like, you know, like, I went in your room and you was listening to Speed Garage.
Joe ColeHOST
9:23
[laughs]
Wayne BridgeHOST
9:24
[laughs]
Peter CrouchGUEST
9:24
Speed Garage.
Joe ColeHOST
9:25
Who would lend us dance-
Peter CrouchGUEST
9:26
That's a, that's a West London thing, you know?
Peter CrouchGUEST
9:33
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
