G

But, like, the pack seemed motivated to, like, stay together, keep pushing.

G
40:09Grace WashburnHOST
I even remember a couple of years ago when I was working at Specialized, we were talking about Unbound a lot.
G
40:15Grace WashburnHOST
And there was literally a conversation about...

J

Trek, the maker of very nice bikes by the way, Trek has launched the new 2027 Alant+ in Europe, pitching its full suspension electric bike against the equivalent from the likes of Specialized with their Turbo Vado 3X.
M
24:28Martin LeeHOST
Both use Bosch's performance line.
M
24:31Martin LeeHOST
It's a mid-drive motor, so this is real high-end stuff from Trek.
Why Building Health Hardware Is So Brutal — Stefan van der Fluit, FLOWBIO
S
19:19Stefan van der FluitGUEST
You're developing incentive schemes around if they hit certain markers, they get certain things, benefits from the company itself.
S
19:25Stefan van der FluitGUEST
So, I mean, David always tells the story for Specialized, the bike brand, where they would come in every Wednesday with, like, T-shirts, free bottles, stickers, whatever, you name it, you know, swag, basically.
S
19:36Stefan van der FluitGUEST
And they would just bribe the store staff with their free swag.
S

The Stiffest Road Bike & Big Brands Charging “Silly Prices” | NERO Show
J
1:25Jesse CoyleHOST
It's like a call to authority sort of... testimonial style badge is tour magazine's 2026 rating of a 1.4 uh rest best bike in the world apparently that score i haven't actually double checked what all the combined scores are because that score is basically taking all the individual things they test like aerodynamics bottom bracket stiffness weight and then tour magazine give them a score so a lower score is better And so then they average the score in each of those categories and apparently 1.4 is very low or the lowest.
J
2:01Jesse CoyleHOST
And Specialized have respected Tour Magazine enough to go, bang, you're on our S-Works head of the product page.
C
2:11Chris MillerHOST
I don't know this for certain, but I would have assumed the SL8 was right up there as well.
C
2:16Chris MillerHOST
Because I remember when we had Robert on, he was glowing of the SL8 to the point where he was saying words like he can't believe how well this thing's tested, et cetera, et cetera.
C
2:27Chris MillerHOST
So my point being, I assume with that bike having tested really well as well and probably got a very low score, that this is a new thing for Specialized.
C
2:37Chris MillerHOST
Yeah, I've
J
2:37Jesse CoyleHOST
never seen this before, and I've spent a lot of time on S-Works SL Tarmac product
C

20:29Steve MatthesHOST
And I know it's patented, but Sergio, I'm going to need you to make me a genie shock for my taser, okay? Because whatever's going...
S
20:36Steve MatthesHOST
So just never mind if any executives are listening to this, just... miss over this part because that genie shock on that levo is the best air shock i've ridden on an e-bike for my weight and weight of the bike and everything whatever you guys are doing with that and again it's patented specialized really good job on that but i'm gonna need that for my taser thanks
S
20:58Sergio AvantoGUEST
Yeah, the guys at Specialized are really impressive.
S
21:03Sergio AvantoGUEST
We haven't talked about this yet, but the fundamental difference between American riders and European riders, that difference exists, right? And Specialized ends up aligning more with European needs, where the bike needs to be a little more poppy, kind of more bunny hoppy, and free on the front side of it, where others are more Eli Tomac plowing through the bumps, right? The Genie lends itself to that more free aspect.
S
21:24Sergio AvantoGUEST
poppy bike feel that a lot of people that ride mountain bikes prefer.
S
21:29Sergio AvantoGUEST
But again, it's really for the OE to decide what they want their customer to do.

D

Remember, he's coached and coaches in Bucco Specialized, Toyota, that race team, and has many other high-level athletes.
D
