Elena HydeHOST
53:28
Uh, very, very quickly is, you know, not all satellites are bad.
Elena HydeHOST
53:33
There are some satellites we do like, so I'll just give a little shout out to the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope.
Elena HydeHOST
53:39
that recently launched just a little bit ago.
Elena HydeHOST
53:42
And if you have not heard of the Space Telescope, it's pretty awesome.
Elena HydeHOST
53:48
So the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is one of these flagship orbital observatories.
Elena HydeHOST
53:58
And it's going to have some really, really unique capacity in some really interesting areas like exoplanets and ability to potentially find Earth-like worlds, which are tiny and very, very hard to find.
Elena HydeHOST
54:15
So this is going to be one that's going to probably have some really interesting implications for exoplanets, for rogue planets, um for all kinds of things with transits and habitable worlds and it is not it has to travel through low earth orbit and medium earth orbit but it's not going to be part of the problem it's going to be all the way out at lagrange point two uh so very very far away although there are a few things that look grunge point to you now um james webb space telescope for another But something to look forward to in satellites.
Elena HydeHOST
54:55
And also, in a little bit of hopeful news, one thing that has also happened is the Iris 2 constellation.
Charles BailynHOST
31:02
So, there's no atmospheric absorption out there, and so you have a much easier time doing this from space.
Charles BailynHOST
31:09
So, what they have been doing is, recently, people, in particular a guy named Adam Ries, have been using the space telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope, to find high redshift supernovae.
Charles BailynHOST
31:30
There is a flaw in the way the Space Telescope is designed from the point of view of trying to do this experiment.
Charles BailynHOST
31:37
And the flaw is that it doesn't look at very much of the sky at once.
Charles BailynHOST
31:42
It only looks at a small field of view, so you don't find many.
Charles BailynHOST
31:56
because you're just not looking at that bigger part of the sky.
Charles BailynHOST
32:00
And so, you can only look at a tiny piece of the sky at once.
Charles BailynHOST
32:05
However, they have spent, because this is of some clear importance, they've spent many, many, many hundreds of observing hours with the Space Telescope, trying to track down a few supernovae at a redshift greater than 1.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:14
It's like stuff I feel like I should know about.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:18
So first of all, a space telescope launched.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:24
Wow.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:26
It launched on the 30th of August, actually.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:28
So a few days ago, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, it has a field of view at least 100 times larger than the Hubble's.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:38
And it's going to measure light from a billion galaxies in its lifetime.
Amelia TrinhHOST
39:42
Wow.
