Southwark London Borough Council

But before, it was just Suffolk that had done it and then it became in London and then it became Islington Borough as well that had a community gardening department.

I am loving the sound of Southwark Council.

I have to say, I'm sure it's not all plain sailing as things with councils tend to be, but you know, they really are doing great work.

So you mentioned you've been in horticulture for a relatively short time.

what what what compost bins have you got

I've just, so round our way in London, Southwark Council do subsidised compost bins.

So I just wrote off and they delivered three of the big black plastic ones with a flap down.

Exactly, the Daleks.

So, uh, every time.

Even like now I've start, like I get funding every year from Southwark Council, and what Rainbow's done is done me a good deal with fabric.

Yeah.

You know, similar, and plus they've had s- like some odd bits of fabric, and they send bags to people that need it.

But we didn't know that.

I didn't really know a bomb site from a Southwark Council clearance site or a GLC project.

They were just, just half of London just wasn't there.

I made a slightly cheap remark.

Lucy Bannister has experience in working as a policy manager for Joseph Rowntree...

Foundation, Southwark Council and more.

Peace be upon you Lucy and welcome to the show.

Good morning, thanks so much for having me on.

Our guest today is James McAsh, the council leader of London's Borough of Southwark.

As council leader, McCash sets the overall vision, direction, and priorities for the Southwark Council.

Since 2018, McCash has served the council, prioritizing walking, cycling, and street design aimed at creating a safer, greener, and more pedestrian-friendly Southwark.

It's our pleasure to welcome Councillor James McAsh to the show.

You're joining us from South London, uh, and from a, a city of five boroughs.

Would love, uh, to have you share a little bit about your city of a, a few more boroughs and the borough you represent, Southwark.

So I'm James McAsh, and I'm the leader of Southwark Council, and it's, um...

Southwark's one of the, one of the London boroughs.
