Southern Alps

And then that went out of control.

I was getting so many volunteers that I had to stop that as well because I didn't want anyone else to get injured in the process of looking for this dog in the Southern Alps.

Yeah.

And so I planned a day to go look.

And then as soon as you pop over the East Coast, dry, barren rock.

and they're so close and you just go skip over the hill and it just changes like you've just gone to another country.

That's extraordinary, isn't it? And you get to see that from your vantage point over those Southern Alps.

Yeah, incredible, eh?

So it's the torque between the actual liquid and the cask when it's in the barrel room.

yeah so we always knew that we kind of really wanted to be on this 45th parallel but it took us you know a number of years to find this this site that we've we've got now and uh yeah so probably yeah we i moved down about six years ago so it was it was probably about seven or eight years ago that we we found the site and it was you know essentially a you know it's a 36 hectare um you know beautiful piece of land that's sort of perched up on the side of a mountain overlooking lake dunstan and and the pizer um mountain range which are covered with snow at the moment which is good to see and um yeah right on that uh on that 45th parallel so that was kind of it was you know the location for aging single malt whiskey was was one of the reasons we moved down here um we've got a really good water source you know the water source is essentially all off the southern alps you know flows into lake wanaka down the clutha river and that's the water source that we use in all our spirits and you know you need a really good quality water source for um creating good spirits um Um, we, we needed a, you know, a big site that we could, um, you know, we could essentially grow and develop and expand, you know, over the years and never have to move essentially.

And, um, you know, when you're selling, you know, a New Zealand brand to the world, you know, this kind of central Otago, this is, is, is pretty, is pretty, um, awesome for that.

And, um, And I guess lastly, we really want to open the distillery up in the near future for gin and whiskey enthusiasts to come and taste and experience everything that's skate racing.

Just to give you a bit of a brief on the river, it's 151 kilometres from the Southern Alps to Pegasus Bay.

So it's a long river, braided, gorgy, everything going on there.

It has a massive catchment.

One thing they love about the individual and some – one of the most beautiful moments in their life, one of the most challenging moments in their life.

And to hear 10 grown men go around and share their deepest, darkest thoughts with no one else around in the middle of the back country, Southern Alps, is one of the most beautiful experiences one could ever see.

Grown men burying their soul in the middle of a frozen lake.

And they start talking, and this takes a long time.

We'll see.

And also, it'd be great to go back to the Alps or the Southern Alps in New Zealand.

So we'll see.

I think I took some of my first footsteps on this awa.

Waters like the Arahura River, from where Katene Campbell has never strayed too far.
