Earlier this month, Anchorage police shot a man who they say fired a gun at officers after a standoff.

The shooting also brought attention to the home where it happened.

Neighbors say they've seen repeated criminal activity there.

As Alaska Public Media's Wesley Early reports, police are pursuing a process that could force the property to close.

Jeremiah Schultz and his wife were sitting at their kitchen table in midtown when they heard the gunfire.

The department wrote the company a stern letter, giving Blue Crest 30 days to prove it could fund more development or risk losing access to the unit.

Blue Crest's announcement comes as South Central Alaska's largest natural gas utility says demand for gas could outpace supply as soon as this winter.

And Star Natural Gas says it could run 18 days short of supply if this winter follows typical temperature trends.

Cook Inlet's largest developer, Hillcorp, has warned for years that it's no longer economic to spend more money drilling for riskier gas in the state's oldest basin.
