It comes after Burnham avoided Scotland on his so-called listening tour of Britain, despite pledging to visit all of the UK's nations.

He visited Ilkeston in Derbyshire, Sheffield in South Yorkshire, Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, Port Talbot in Wales and Belfast in Northern Ireland, meaning Scotland was the only one of four UK nations not to be included.

Since becoming Prime Minister, Burnham has visited Scotland to attend the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 23rd, before the listening tour took place.

The King and Queen were also in attendance at the opening ceremony, which means that Burnham has now met with the King in Scotland more times than he has spoken with any of the Scottish public.

Well, they tax us on just about everything else.

It'll be a small fee in most likelihood.

And that money can then be used by mayors to fund public services or local improvements.

The society is now finding its feet.

On April 17th it had been resolved to send a delegate to examine into and report upon the South Yorkshire miners, and on the same day it was determined to get up a soiree.

This gathering held in Gower Street was memorable because it was attended by Mrs. Annie Besant, then notorious as an advocate of atheism and Malthusianism, the heroine of several famous law cases and a friend and colleague of Charles Bradlaugh.

Mrs. Besant was elected a member a few weeks later, and she completed the list of the seven who subsequently wrote Fabian Essays, with the exception of Graham Wallace, who did not join the society until April 1886.

Hmm.

You had cut through in South Yorkshire, right? So the SDP have-

There have been pockets of the country where it's worked.

We had a very good candidate in Wayne Dixon there, so we, we concentrated, and it worked.

And it's, and, and even last, you know, this last May, Reform put up a huge challenge, and we still kept the seat.

So, uh, and then South Yorkshire mayoral election did very well, you know, uh, saved the deposit quite easily.

So I don't-- I mean, over the whole scan of things, you know, I've been, I've been very proud of a lot of what we've done over, over the eight and a half years since eight, since twenty eighteen.

It was already growing in 2016, 2017, when Andy took over as mayor.

So I think, um, yes, with a fair wind behind you from Downing Street, if you are South Yorkshire, if you're the Northeast, if you're the East Midlands, you're probably more likely to be able to get there quicker than Greater Manchester was able to do because they had such an uphill battle over such a long period of time to get heard in central government.

But it doesn't mean that it kind of, that stuff necessarily kind of kicks into gear overnight.

And I think, um, that's the kind of, that's the challenge, maybe the challenge in terms of expectations and horizons, and are we talking about 10-year plan here or, you know, what happens when.

Again, on Thursday, I said that he got lucky in some ways.

We got lucky in the first place because he's from Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

He'd attracted Hull City, ironically.

They were kind of odds on to sign him, really.
