South Saskatchewan River

Right? It was the flood of, of, of, of, of settlers were by and large Ontarians, and I think that is so important.

I mean, the, the, the white Ontario settlements in Portage la Prairie and, like, across, up, up until, up into, like, the So- the South Saskatchewan River Valley, the North Saskatchewan River Valley, and, and, and all, like, that was the way that the railway was supposed to go, and then eventually they were like, "Oh, let's just go south instead." But it was, it was the Ontario settlers that, that settled the West, and they, they did that because they, they bought into Macdonald's project.

And we still buy into that project today, because we're still resisting that pull of the North m- to the South and trying to build the East to the West.

But, like, you can't do that, in a lot of different ways, we can't do that without actually really strong state central management, and that is a lesson from Macdonald.

Yeah, I think it cuts both ways in the standpoint.

I was out on the South Saskatchewan River here on Friday with my dad.

We did a little paddleboard, stopped at some sandbars, and it was really nice.

And one of my reflections was like, this is awesome.

The South Saskatchewan River runs right through the city so it's got some beauty to it too.

There are trails, parks, festivals, galleries, live music, breweries.

It's a surprisingly vibrant cultural scene a lot of people don't know about and Saskatoon residents themselves seem to actually like living there if you live there give us a comment a recent city survey said that 84% of their residents were satisfied living in Saskatoon that's pretty hard to argue with 84% now there is also a big reason Saskatoon doesn't rank higher and we're talking about that here today as well they kind of rank a little bit low on crime Saskatooners In the crime severity index, it remains considerably higher than the other Canadian averages.
