South San Diego

I mean, with redlining, you had communities that were racially segregated, basically, and folks being forced to buy homes only in specific places that were also often zoned next to industrial centers or manufacturing areas.

And we see that throughout South San Diego.

We see that in the National City area.

And so much of my reporting has focused on these communities because this legacy continues.

San Diego.

Lived all my life pretty much in South Bay, South San Diego, Chula Vista.

Parents.

My mom's from Guadalajara.

They stop themselves.

In fact, I was in Southern San Diego last week at a school and the school superintendent who brought us into her middle, one of her middle schools, was sharing after the fact that she was working with a student who wanted a cat.

And so they got to the food question and Liz said, well, I just bought cat food for my cat.

It was $40 for one month.

Yeah.

I had, I was living with these chicks in, like, South San Diego.

Mm-hmm.

Like, a friend of mine, uh, me and a friend, like, we just, like, met these girls and one of the girl's mom, she, like, had gotten admitted into, like, a convalescent home.
