South Jamaica

That's crazy.

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Southside, Jamaica, to be exact.

I have an aunt out here in Englewood.

And I used to live in Glendale for like six months, like at Water Village area in 2012.

And mine is similarly the heat vulnerability score.

You know, you can you can drill down to neighborhood, you know, so like within Manhattan, you go up north and it's like East Harlem and in Brooklyn, East Flatbush and then South Jamaica, Jamaica and Queens.

And we have colleagues and collaborators in New York City.

And we talk with them, they're in the midst of some extreme heat wave and the older adults they're caring for are really suffering.

They went to kindergarten together.

And now they have this business together in South Jamaica, Queens.

Um, they said they've done a lot of wrong in their lives, but now they've managed to, over the past decade, complete window curtain wall and glass installation projects across more than 100 buildings, um, in the New York City area.

And if y'all know, that type of work is really expensive, and you also wanna make sure it's always done right.

New York is experimenting with such blue-green infrastructure capabilities.

including natural drainage in Staten Island, porous pavement, and a sunken basketball court at the South Jamaica houses in Queens, where water drains to tanks that can be siphoned slowly.

More of this is on the way.

For now, the city, like the MTA, plays whack-a-mole with old infrastructure, trying to prevent clogs.
