Sourwood

Georgia's Leafwatch filed its first 2026 report, and color is starting above 3,000 feet near Braston Bald.

Sourwood, dogwood, and red maple are turning.

Hike high this weekend.

Peak won't hit till late October.

They're a little bit more on the brown side.

Sourwood, very nice tree, they, uh, develop this deep reddish purple.

And some trees have put on an extra special show.

They are in all sorts of colors from yellow to orange to red, and, um, uh, these are like, uh, sugar maples and black tupelo, and sweetgum, which is a very popular street tree.
