As I continued to write it, I found myself interweaving memories of Augie because experience became this sort of juxtaposition between the past and the present.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
8:54
And then as I worked with my agent to shape it and to pitch it to various publishers, I was very fortunate that my editor, Anna, at Sourcebooks, she saw the line of the story as a path to renewal.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:10
I didn't quite see that line.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:13
And, you know, when an editor like Anna Michaels sees that through line in your work, you know, a great editor is terrific.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:24
absolutely.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:25
Absolutely.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:25
I'm very fortunate to have a terrific agent and terrific editor who helped me get to a publisher like Sourcebooks that embraced a book like this.
Matthew SigmundGUEST
9:35
It's an unusual book.

Hi, so excited to be here.
Anna HirschHOST
44:59
Right, 'cause we know people who have gotten deals around the same time for 2027, so the 2028 publishing calendar still has, like, a lot of spots left in it, it seems.
ZillaHOST
45:11
Yeah, I, I have not seen any other Sourcebooks authors in there yet, but that doesn't mean that they're not out there.
ZillaHOST
45:17
So yeah, it's just been kind of, kind of fun and different and, like, I'm learning a lot because I had no idea what was happening on this side of the agent.
Anna HirschHOST
45:28
Yeah, I feel like this is, you know, this is just a new stage of publishing and at, like, every stage there is all this new stuff to learn about.
Elizabeth AdamsGUEST
58:26
But there was this huge demand for books.
Elizabeth AdamsGUEST
58:28
So Sourcebooks stepped into that space and published all of this stuff.
Elizabeth AdamsGUEST
58:34
So if it's William Darcy, Rockstar was one of the big ones.
Elizabeth AdamsGUEST
58:37
I think I already said Abigail Reynolds.
Terry HorstmanHOST
50:12
smash that pre-order button.
Terry HorstmanHOST
50:13
I think Sourcebooks is even running a deal.
Terry HorstmanHOST
50:16
It's like... 8.99 paperback right now that's a hell of a deal come on
Nicole MellebyGUEST
50:21
totally affordable totally
Bethany AmandaHOST
11:36
So what kind of tipped the scales for you?
Bethan CroomeGUEST
11:37
well there's lots of things so obviously Cosmo Reads is an imprint of Sourcebooks and Sourcebooks is an independent publishing house they are also woman owned and like I just like love that they're also really new and fresh and I just love Sourcebooks I realized like when I was like coming towards like sending my book back to the agent and stuff when I would go to the bookstore I never really did this before but I started looking at like who was publishing what because in Normally I'm just looking at the cover, but then I was like looking at the spine to see who is publishing these books.
Bethan CroomeGUEST
12:10
I have, I don't even, I do know big publishers and I do know imprints, but I didn't actually know like what book was attached to what publishing house necessarily.
Bethan CroomeGUEST
12:17
So I was looking and every single time I saw a cover that I thought was like stunning, it would be a source books book or an imprint of source books.
Bethan CroomeGUEST
12:27
So then when I was told that they, that source books wanted to publish my book, I was like- I'd already decided.
Bethan CroomeGUEST
12:35
As soon as he told me that, I was like, we can wait and see if anyone else was interested, but I've already decided I'm going with
Bethany AmandaHOST
12:42
Sourcebooks.
Bethan CroomeGUEST
12:43
And then I spoke on Zoom with the editor and stuff after they'd made an offering on my book.
