AshleyHOST
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Cosplay Collective's Anime of the Month.
AshleyHOST
This month, I have selected Soul Eater, an action dark comedy fantasy where we follow three young meisters and their weapons.
AshleyHOST
Let's revisit this popular show from the early 2000s and see how it holds up after 20 years.
AshleyHOST
I'm Ashley of Rafael Cosplay.
AshleyHOST
There is indeed a manga.
KeithPANELIST
Manga, no.
KeithPANELIST
But I have seen the spinoff anime, Soul Eater Not!, as well.
KevinPANELIST
I have not seen the spinoff anime, and I have not read the manga.
CourtneyHOST
Is Crona...
JasenHOST
Crona's from Soul Eater.
JasenHOST
The kid with the pink hair and the sword that beats his ass.
JasenHOST
Yeah.
CourtneyHOST
Okay.
CourtneyHOST
All right.
CourtneyHOST
So then as far as tactics, tactics, tactics, strategies, um, I don't remember getting far enough in Soul Eater to see more than one corona fight
CourtneyHOST
oh
MasonHOST
Uh, next on the list, this was picked by the good doctor, Mr. Raggedy, and it is The Vermilion Mask.
MasonHOST
And this looks like some Soul Eater, edgy shonen stuff.
MasonHOST
This is on Crunchyroll.
MasonHOST
It's based on a manga.
LukeHOST
doesn't have no picture on it?
JesseHOST
No, put Soul Eater on it or like JoJo.
JesseHOST
Yeah, put Naruto on it.
Griffin WenzlerGUEST
Jujutsu Kaisen.
DaveHOST
Koki Uchiyama, so he voices the debt collector.
DaveHOST
And so the voice of Roxas from Kingdom Hearts, Soul Eater Evans from Soul Eater, Shigaraki, my hero, Midnight from Fairytale.
DaveHOST
This guy is voicing the debt collector, Otaku-looking fella.
DaveHOST
We also have Rie Takahashi, who's Emilia from ReZero, and Ai Hoshino from Oshinoko.
MikeHOST
depending on the book settings
SeanHOST
But no, what I'm actually going to recommend, because then I went to the anime list and was like, oh, Soul Eater, you know, my favorite shounen anime of all time.
SeanHOST
Let's pick Soul Eater.
SeanHOST
For people who don't know, so in Soul Eater, it follows the students of the Death Weapon Meister Academy, who all have one goal.
SeanHOST
They take their weapons, which can be swapped between humanoid form and weapon form, and they're trying to make them into weapons for Death himself.
SeanHOST
And to do that, they need to get 99, like, bad, evil human souls, and then one witch soul, and that will turn it into a Death Scythe, a weapon for the Grim Reaper.
SeanHOST
I love the direction, the art, the sound and everything.
SeanHOST
And it proves to me that you don't need to have a shounen series that has a triple digit episode count.
AaronHOST
Speaking of Studio Bones, it's the studio that did it.
AaronHOST
And they've done anime such as Soul Eater, Eureka 7, Skull Man, Space Dandy, Blood...
AaronHOST
I always can't say this.
AaronHOST
Blood Blockade Battlefront, Mob Psycho, Dragon Pilot, Curlin Tuesday, and Metallic Rouge.
Marco AnimotoHOST
it.
Marco AnimotoHOST
No, it is soul eater.
Marco AnimotoHOST
It's a manga.
Marco AnimotoHOST
Uh, it is the prologue plus chapters one through 17, uh, provided by, uh, Roosevelt on the discord.
ShadaHOST
But once you get past that, pretty good story.
ShadaHOST
And it's a prequel to, uh, Soul Eater.
ShadaHOST
It's one of my all-time favorite animes and mangas, so.
MattHOST
Shotta-
Otaku NateHOST
Gray Man in here.
Otaku NateHOST
And also, the power system is also a little akin to Soul Eater, where you have a partner that is the source for your power, in which case...
Otaku NateHOST
You know, the Quasars have either a Mariah or a Magdalene, which, Kat, do they ever explain what the difference is between a Mariah and a Magdalene in the show?
KatHOST
Yes, but it has been too long.
