Sorry, Baby

She has recently appeared in Blink Twice in 2024, Mickey 17 last year.

As well as Sorry Baby, an absolutely brilliant film.

and now Clayface as scientist Caitlin Corr.

So in our chat, Tom talks about the complex layers to Matt Hagen, while Naomi shares what leap of faith she took to be part of this project.

Okay.

And finally, we revisit episode 721, where you speak with Ava Victor about preparing themselves to direct their debut feature, Sorry Baby.

So good.

I remember that episode pretty clearly.

And then when I sent them the script, they said a very generous no and made this really beautiful letter about the script and what was valuable about it emotionally and then why they weren't the right partners for it.

That was weirdly like a letter that I read and cried out of like, oh, but there are people out there who are understanding.

And then I... had been over the course of, you know, five years or so, been stewing on the idea for Sorry Baby, but was sort of like, man, the words, if I start writing them down too soon just for this particular project, they're going to, I'm going to get too depressed about how bad it is compared to what the story means to me.

So it took me a really long time to piece together the writing of it.

And this actually the Letterboxd thing, I think, helps the smallest movies the most.

Because if you if you think about it, something like Sorry Baby, which just barely made a dent in awards season because it was like a small directorial debut, et cetera, et cetera.

but was quite good right that probably had i don't actually know i've stopped my head what the letterboxd score for that would be but like it won like it was something that would win like indie spirits but not make a splash at the oscars doesn't make a lot of money because it's a small movie but the letterboxd score is through the roof like that i think is probably the thing that benefits the most sorry baby at 4.1 on letterboxd

that's not surprising And to Greg's point, Super Mario Galaxy 2.9.

So $500 million plus at the box office, but not thought of super fondly.

Yeah.

I agree that Club Kid is like when I predicted that Sorry Baby had a chance for Best Picture last year and was...

I mean,

look, we were all rooting for Sorry Baby.

But I...

Yeah, I just think it speaks to...
