So how can supply chain leaders harness its potential while ensuring also the responsible growth of AI?

Well, let's start with the elephant, right? AI is infrastructure.

Every AI capability ultimately connects back to data centers and data centers require energy, water, land, materials.

This is the investment into what AI can achieve for us.

And right now, my biggest concern, folks, is that the exact type of people listening to a podcast like this, supply chain leaders, those interested in sustainability, will think of the topic of a sustainable supply chain as antithetical to AI.

and therefore relegate the idea of a sustainable supply chain to something ancient because we know AI is going to be the future or inherently see it as contradictory.

So for the supply chain leaders listening, anytime we're thinking about AI and sustainability, let's think of it as a financial equation.

So is this finally the moment AI makes scope 3 really manageable?

And then can you talk a little bit about SAP's approach to sustainability itself?

So SAP has a very sophisticated approach to sustainability.

At a top level, we describe that approach as an enabler and an exemplar model, and the enabler model really taps into what I described SAP as doing before.

We're helping organizations run their businesses.

And when you look at what needs to be done to achieve a lower carbon, more circular economy, it happens in the business processes that SAP runs, the planning, the ordering, the procurement, the design, the shipping of any given product.

So first, we focus there, and we've largely broken down the elements that need to move our global economy into three categories.

There's carbon management, which includes the ability to go from estimates to actuals on carbon from scopes one, two, and three to really product-level sustainability attributes or product-level carbon footprint.
