Because this could have a variety of gameplay, which I think is what a lot of even Sonic haters when they come to a Sonic game appreciate in a Sonic game is they like the Sonic levels, but they're like, it's it's either a game that plays itself and it's stupid, which I disagree with, but I understand that perspective, or it just stops and is a platform game for no reason in a game that encourages you to go fast.

Well, in this situation, you actually have an excuse as to why Sonic cannot be doing Sonic stuff and going fast.
