Something Beautiful

There was another connection that completely caught me off guard while I was listening this week.

Robin's guitar work on 50-50 Clown, particularly when Liz Fraser's vocal becomes almost operatic and the guitar is wailing away behind her, immediately made me think of Miley Cyrus' Pretend You're God from Something Beautiful.

Adam Granduciel plays guitar on that track, and there's something about his tone and the way the guitar is used as this huge atmospheric texture behind Miley that gives me exactly the same feeling.

[laughs] I'm not suggesting Adam was deliberately referencing Cocteau Twins, but sonically the connection jumped out at me straight away.

I'm still processing it 'cause it's been out for a little less than a week, but I wrote my review.

Ultimately, I think Something Beautiful is so much stronger than this.

It played into, like, how diverse of a range Miley Cyrus has as an artist, pulling in everything from, you know, experimental psychedelic rock to psychedelic pop to, um- Dance pop, synth pop with "The Walk of Fame." A song like "Walk of Fame" being on the same album as "Pretend You're God," the same album as "End of the World" and the ABBA of it all-

So true

Love that song.

So cool, and it has the chorus plays into, like, the pop hook of it all to make it catchy.

Then "Let's Get Married," which I personally love because "Golden Burning Sun" off Something Beautiful was one of my favorite Miley songs ever.

I love when she does this, like, sun-soaked fatalist thing, and the rest of the album is just so forgettable to me.

You can get away with doing a Passion Project album that's not a commercial hit album, but you can't do them like back to back.

Like the album before, Something Beautiful, which I really liked.

I think that's actually her best album.

And this new album...

It pisses me off so much because this is her first album with Atlantic Records.

And she did something beautiful, which again, I loved.

I'm sure she put some of her own money into it because she did like a concert film for it and everything.

Yeah.

And I think... that's showing I personally as such a something beautiful defender was confused that there was even an album coming because I was like let's really try and work that album yeah let's

get end of the world a sing placement and a big show because it's

so epic it's like literally a finale song walk of fame should be a huge hit for Miley like that people should think of that as the liberty walk sequel the It's so good.

There's so much on Something Beautiful that I love.

I'm just a little confused.

I still feel like End of the World's going to have a

But...

But it is Miley Cyrus's 10th studio album, Bass Persuades.

Now, when this album was announced and, you know, we got some of the visuals and the album art and everything, I was getting very much like something beautiful, plastic hearts from it.

Then when we got the lead single, I was like, oh, we're getting more like can't be tamed, something beautiful crossover vibes.

So I thought we were going to lean into a little more like dancey dance pop upbeat kind of vibes.

And the album is here and it's not exactly as upbeat as I wanted to be or as I expected it to be.

And quite frankly, it just doesn't.

But that doesn't mean it's bad, per se.

You know, it's just not exactly what... what I was thinking we were going to get although it does kind of feel like a a natural progression from Something Beautiful which Something Beautiful felt like a natural progression from Endless Summer Vacation her album before that so it does kind of feel like she's in this natural flow of just this like vibey kind of music she's making I know there's like this this like Miley Cyrus touch to all of these albums that feels very much true to her and I mean she's considering the way that she genre-hopped so much in her early career.

And I

think what could have saved maybe the sales was something beautiful as if maybe she leaned into that, unfortunately.

Maybe.

I don't necessarily love it.

So there's like two sides of it.

yeah i like i think they are very comfortable around each other i feel like miley's very comfortable with him

i agree i think part of the frustration online is coming from i don't think that they really talked about the album as much as maybe we thought that they would i think they talked way more about her personal life but like that shows to me that she's like more comfortable with him and also we are learning things about her personal life that we didn't know before and i i I thought it was like a really fun conversation and it was kind of, I'll say, kind of like a breath of fresh air after so many of our Something Beautiful interviews that she said things that were like maybe discouraging to the fan base.

She had me cracking up, laughing, and my heart just felt so warm listening to this whole interview and conversation personally.
