Solomon's Temple

Uh, in Deuteronomy, this is not the covenant with Abraham of the circumcision, but the covenant that God makes with Israel, that if Israel fulfills, uh, the commandments, does what God wants, then God will take care of the Jewish people.

And, uh, whereas in, in the time of the First Temple, in the time of, uh, uh, all the kings, uh, the Jews were very idolatrous, uh, idolatry had basically disappeared, uh, by the third or fourth century before the Common Era.

And so the Jews were following what God wanted, and yet God did not protect them.

Uh, and, uh, the, uh, book of, uh, Eichah Rabbah, which is a midrash on lament- on the Book of Lamentations by Jeremiah, uh, makes this point very clearly that, you know, "God, what did you do to-- why did you do this to us?" And I think that, uh, uh, as a result, the notion of the covenant between God and Israel is absent in Pirkei Avot altogether.

Faithfully from as the Bible says it, this is Solomon's temple.

It's important to note that Solomon is not a name of a person.

It's a combination of three words for the sun.

If he was a Socinian, we can easily understand how the secret society of Vicenza could have attractions for one of his anti-Catholic and ambitious sentiments.

He gave its members in England, as Monsignor Segur tells us, the title of Freemasons, and invited the allegory of the Temple of Solomon, now so much used by Masonry of every kind, and which meant the original state of man supposed to be a commonwealth of equality with a vague deism as its religion.

This temple, destroyed by Christ for the Christian order, was to be restored by Freemasonry after Christ and the Christian order should be obliterated by conspiracy and revolution.

The state of nature was the Hiram, whose murder Masonry was to avenge, and which, having previously removed Christ, was to resuscitate Hiram by rebuilding the Temple of Nature as it had been before.

There are reasons which lead me to think that he is right in doing so.

The Jews, for many centuries previous to the Reformation, had formed secret societies for their own protection, and for the destruction of the Christianity which persecuted them, and which they so much hated.

The rebuilding of the Temple of Solomon was the dream of their lives.

It is unquestionable that they wished to make common cause with other bodies of persecuted religionists.

The Crusaders mistakenly believed it was the original Temple of Solomon.

And that location is where they get the name the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon or just the Knights Templar.

I want to pause on the poor part of that name because at this point, they were actually impoverished.

Like they lived entirely on alms, just begging for day-to-day survival.

And here you see, so you had the meeting tent.

This is also brought into the idea of the Temple of Solomon.

And they're more or less giving their best guess as to the true expressions of it.

Whether there's steps here, I'm not sure.

Not sure that was there too.

But what is definitely true is you have Passage into the court, into the holy, and then the holy of holies.

This is probably a more accurate depiction of what the Temple of Solomon looked like or the Second Temple period.

This is a Canaanite temple.

I didn't even realise this.

Solomon's Temple was a copy of a temple in Tyre that was sacked as well.

So I didn't even know...

You can see how it all plays out.

I think it's a bit of a stretch too, but some people really do believe that theory.

The Knights Templar theory refers to some of the richest men on Earth back around the 12th and 13th century, a devout group of Christians who are devoted to the protection of the sacred Temple of Solomon.

These were the elitist of the elite, riches beyond the wildest dreams of the normal person.

I should have got my girlfriend to talk about this one because she's obsessed with the Knights Templar and I can tell I'm not doing a very good job explaining it.
