Solid Sound

I've spent so many times up there.

Solid Sound, which happens every other year, which Wilco...

I guess Wilco is the spearhead behind that.

But they always curate such amazing musical guests.

Grace.

She was at Solid Sound this year.

Wilco's about to go on, and they play all their house- the house music, and Improvement Movement is, uh, part of that playlist.

That was kinda like our intro to you guys, and then here we are-

I think, um, like when I go to...

We've been to Solid Sound a few times.

They're really good at curating, like, new bands, new sounds, new up-and-comers, you know.

And you don't get that at your own headlining show.

I went to the Solid Sound Festival a few weeks ago up in Massachusetts that Wilco puts on every other year.

And I had basically everything you described was true.

There were definitely those moments where it was like, it's crowded and it's hot and I haven't had enough water and I'm just sort of wandering around and these sets are a little unfocused.

And having no idea what it was.

And, you know, it was the music and the sense of community and all of those things that we talk about that get us to Bonnaroo, which is, and the people, right, that I now go to Pickathon with or that go to Solid Sound or that, you know, how that web just kind of grows.

And, you know, I love...

the feeling that you get, right? In so many different spaces in a music festival.

Uh, but Mikayla Davis put it out, a record this year called Graceland Way, and, uh, she's a fantastic, like, songwriter, singer, harpist.

Um, I've had the pleasure of seeing her with her full band and in like a solo and duo format, uh, at Solid Sound this year.

Uh, we ran into her.

We had gotten to chat with her after a show that I photographed in, in Homer, New York that she played.

Um, so we ran into her at Solid Sound.

She was not performing.

She was just there being a fan like the rest of us, um, and you know, congratulated her on the record and all that.

I, I shouldn't have said a word.

One time we did this song, uh, we did live band karaoke, and we had contest winners sing the songs, uh, at our festival, Solid Sound.

Mm-hmm.

And, um, we put a bouncing ball version of all the songs up on the screen behind us, and the crowd was just like, "Huh?" [laughs]
